I was reading the updates on mmochamp and I literally don't recognize the game. I love the theme of the next expac but the whole missions shit and order halls seems like a Facebook game to me instead of what it used to be. I want to do dungeons and raids for gear and not depend on weird buffs from a weird shaman hole in the ground where I have to summon ascendants or whatever the fuck. It's confusing

I'm losing blind and gouge as well as preparation on the char I've mained from vanilla I'm losing my mobility and control I'm also being introduced to a class that can say "hey fuck your core mechanic from 30 yards." No, I'm not ready to be cucked into raiding to be able to do anything or switch my specialization to be viable. Nor am I ready for uninformative character screens that have been gutted of information except for "Your primary stats" I'm not ready for battlegrounds and arenas with uniform stats. Nor Garrison 2.0 Class edition. I'm just so sad I can't get my pre order money back. But since I spent the money, I may as well get what I can from this expansion before I kick the habit for good.

This is bullshit, I used to be in an incredibly elitist hardcore guild back in the vanilla nax days (believe me or not, I really don't give two fucks) and they literally refused to take feral/balance druids, shadow priests and elemental shamans to the raids because of how gimped they were.
Enhance shamans had a spot because their dps was good and windfury totem as a damage buff was amazing, but there was no "utility" per se, just a damage buff.

To be fair, the devs already said almost a year before that Heavensward was going to follow the same content trend as ARR but try some new things once in a while.
They added Diadem and LoV which was a flop, they added red scrips which was an even bigger flop, and they are planning on adding content like Palace of the Dead and Treasure Hunting Dungeons in 3.3 and if the trend follows then that will a flop too. Whenever they try new content, people don't like it as much so they go back to the same tried and true stale formula grind as ARR.
Also, ARR was a full game at release. Heavensward is an expansion. It's only natural that ARR had more content to offer at release than Heavensward.

Cataclysm was the peak of WoW. Wrath was a step down, but did somethings right. However, Cataclysm on release was amazing. Great heroics, challenging raids, fun zones. I don't give a fuck what /v/ thinks, Vashj'ir was great.

I should have included that there was a lot wrong with Cataclysm. However, most of it seemed to be a reaction to community feedback. As for reps, heroic grind, raiding, that all sounds like BC.
Reps were more or less the same as BC. I remember spending two weeks grinding Netherwing rep for a mount. You also needed those shitty tokens for gear enchants (scryers aldor)
The grinding was pretty bad compared to Cataclysm AT LAUNCH. It was basically Karazhan the entire expansion and hope to get into a 25-man raiding guild. While I managed to get into one, it wasn't ideal.

I'll give you crafting.
There wasn't much of a heroic grind in BC until the badges. I guess Champ of the Naaru could be considered a "grind" but they got rid of that for the better (it's my favorite achievement but very hard for the average player). When badges did come out though, everyone was forced to trudge through Karazhan. It was really annoying. From then on, the badge system has survived in one way or another.
Again, speaking only for Cataclysm pre-Firelands, there was much more freedom in raids. I might be mistaken, but Cata is the only expansion to offer multiple intro raids.

I want Legion to succeed, but it appears they're doubling down on their neo-MMO philosophies instead of fixing the core problems.
They care more about the single player experience feeling "epic" than a cohesive multiplayer world.
Here's some things they could do.
1. Remove flying again from new areas. (maybe they could rework flying to involve skill - as it is now you're basically no clipping around while invincible)
2. Remove LFG and LFR tool.
3. Remove cross server zones in favor of more realm mergers. You have no idea how fast I lost my erection when I saw an Orgrimmar raid fizz out because of instanced zones.
4. Stop pruning abilities and get over the fascination with farmville.

Every one of those points is spot on though - particularly his point about instancing. I mean, open worlds in MMOs should be a given. But FF gets away with this utter shit purely because of the brand name. Seriously, if any other MMO instanced the world to the extent that XIV does, it would be dead within a year. The point about the combat being a light show is also spot on; the colours and sounds that trigger every time you hit a key have no real connection to what you're actually doing - they LOOK great until you realize they're utterly meaningless. I don't need my character being surrounded by ancient energies just because I fired off a basic arrow. The story is also moe garbage that deserves none of the praise that it gets.

1. No flying confirmed again. The zones are designed around it and it works for the most part. Leveling goes at a steady pace.
2. LFG/LFR will never be removed. It is such a core system of multiple multiplayer games, no online game could survive without a matchmaking system these days.
3. That would be great, but WoW will be long dead before that's possible.

It's good that they're self-aware of the problems flying brings. The unfortunate thing is that they've spent so, SO many years pandering to casuals that many of the people that would applaud such a change already left like two expansions ago. It's disorienting going from 4chan/reddit/anywhere and hearing the typical complaints and then going on the Blizz forums where people are still complaining about the game not being casual enough.
Now they can take more risks by making their MMO a proper MMO again, or continue to play it safe and feed off the casual base still remaining.

1. The server-wide community efforts and world pvp was greatest in Vanilla.
