In fact apart from Yoel and his free levels Hollow Lord ending is easier to get on accident if you do not explore too much, as telling Anri about Horace, finding the way to cure Dark Sigil or finding and killing the pilgrim all fail the quest, whereas to do it properly you only have todo Yoel's shit, speak to Anri and speak to Yuria. Even the hidden Gwyndolin chamber's illusionary wall is gone if you're doing Yuria's quest. After that you just finish the game normally.

How I got Greirat to live in Irythyll : Gave Seigward his armor in the well, spoke with Sieg in the kitchen, went back to firelink without touching any new bonfires, sent Greirat out.
Then went to Smouldering Lake, took out the Old Demon King (bonfires okay to grab here), then Greirat survived.
I just was worried about all this talk about new bonfires after meeting Sieg, so I avoided those in that area.

The logic being Siegward and Greirat will be entering the stairs to the kitchen at the same time, and Siegward will therefore save Greirat.

To be fair, a lot of Grimm tales are pretty fucking grim. That just seems to be a prevalent theme in folklore and myth, normal people getting fucked by forces they can't understand.
I feel like they made Smouldering Lake backwards. Like, they assumed any player would see the worm and go "Can't go that way!" and then they'd find the crumbling floor that you open up with the ballista, go through the Demon Ruins, then get behind the worm. Instead it's just a weird thing where most people just run right past the worm, find a boss, then explore a level that "ends" in you shutting off a ballista that isn't a problem anymore.

Honestly, they should've made the worm invincible; I wouldn't be butthurt if From finally decided to include a giant enemy that I couldn't prick with arrows to death. Then when you get to the balista, it triggers a little cutscene or something where you use it to kill the worm.

Happens with magic builds as well. You still need some points in Strength depending on your chosen catalyst (some need 12) and Dexterity is imperative for spell speed. Then, once you've done that, you need two ring slots (Miracle/Pyro/Magic booster and the respective Clutch Ring) to maximize damage.
And even then, every fucking boss is strong to magic.
Honestly, it's not even worth it right now.

in ds2 lots of people ran with infused weapons or infused/buffed weapons because you could strike through someone's defense with some nasty faith damage, even if your physical damage was low, and most people dont have high faith resist so it would be worth it
in this game both physical and elemental damage are effected by a flat damage reduction
in short you have to go through the same damage debuff TWICE, doing less damage than any pure physical build which only goes through that reduction once, its bullshit
