Quality depends on payment. Think on a per hour basis. So about 15$ per hour regardless of subject. If you want a painting that'll take me a good 40 hours, then it'll cost you a hefty sum. If you want a simple sketch that'll take me about 30 mins, then it'll be cheap. On average, anything presentable takes upwards of one hour depending.
If I'm doing shit for free, you're goddamn right I'm gonna picky. I didn't/don't slave hours learning a skillset in order to gain popularity points on 4chan. If I come to a drawthread, it's to pick something interesting to draw and practice. Maybe get a few followers.

Anyway, if you're feeling unmotivated, might I suggest you take a break from /ic/, and check out other art communities? It's sad, but /ic/ has become horribly toxic with tons of trolls and jealousfags going around deliberately shitting on people's work to unmotivate them. It's slow, but being exposed to that for too long can make you overly critical of your own work.
Recently I've stumbled across cripplechan's /art/ and /loomis/, and ib first impression, they seem to be quite good. In that they don't hugbox like most communities do, but also, they're quite small, and slow, so the only people who post are aspiring artists.
Likewise, one thing that really helped me get on track is strictly structring my studies and flow. It helps you track progress, and set achievable goals. Pic related is a good plan. I'm basically working on a modified version of it.
But do be aware that this is a lifelong journey, and you'll never stop learning. They say 10,000 hours till mastery, but they do have to be quality hours, and if you really wanna git gud, you gotta start treating it like a job, with 8 hours of labor if you can. 10,000 hours at 3 hours a day is still like 10 years. So realize it's a marathon, not a race, and pace yourself.
I wish you the best anon, and hope you consider getting back on the horse. I don't think there's a worse thing you can do to yourself than giving up on your dreams.
In my case, I hope I eventually find a good writer to collab with, since I know I'm not good at writing at all, but I can eventually learn that too.
Making comics is basically mastering three fields, art, writing, and visual story telling. If I can collab with someone a la Bakuman, it at least takes part of the load off.

Writefag here. I have several pitches and one script I tried to submit to the Oni contest awhile ago. I'd be happy to share. Sadly, I got downtrodden after failing that and finding it hard to work with an artist when I don't make enough to pay. If you're using paint tool sai, it's called the binary brush tool.
In manga studio you can choose any brush and tone the anti aliasing setting to the lowest and it'll have pixels and still keep its pressure.
