A lot of the drop in PC sales has to do with how prevalent smart phones and tablets are becoming. Many people just have their phone or a tablet and don't even have a PC anymore. I hate tablets but for someone who is just checking facebook or playing casual shit like bejewled or farmville it makes sense.

Splatoon is really mediocre. The only reason people ave about it is because it's a new successful IP, but it doesnt offer much. I mean, its the same "free update" route as Halo 5, with less players, less modes, and a worse campaign (how it manged that I'm not sure since Halo 5's campaign was really bad).
3D world lacks difficulty until the last couple areas, and then its a chore to go back and make sure you found all the green stars so you can actually have a challenge with Champions Road, but it just makes you wish there were more levels like it. Also makes you wish for a more adventurous 3D Mario like 64 instead of world hopping short levels.

Well, that's only part of the problem. If you look at previous gens the hardware improved a bit in terms of graphics and added more buttons to controllers, so it was always going to be a dead end eventually. What they did have was new games each gen, which is why anybody bought them in the first place. Without a healthy software market the hardware will shrivel and die, regardless of specs. That's why PC is in trouble too. The future is basically Minecraft on tablets and maybe MOBAs as well. PCs and consoles will increasingly be weird grandpa machines as the years go on.
