It really didnt
You re right pal, The Grand Theft Auto 4 soundtrack was overall a 10/10
>>
>>334538338
GTA IV might have the best soundtrack because of Vladivostock FM. It's justifiably overhated, but there's something unique and distinct about that station that makes IV's soundtrack a bit more memorable.

Besides that, the only songs I can recall from IV are Flashing Lights, Highway Star, and No Security. And I'm pretty sure the latter two were only featured in the respective DLCs unless I'm mistaken.
>>
>>334538338

GTA4, period, is unmemorable besides it's overrated scores it got from critics.
>>
>>334538971
I can't remember more than 10 missions or pedestrian quotes from GTA V, and I have 350+ hours in both games.
>>
>>334538338
Why did IV have such a shitty selection for hip-hop? Best shit on that station was Ye and Ghostface.
>>
IV & V have a shitty soundtrack especially V, i know people are gonna say "b-but modern music sucks!!!" but even the stations that played older music were pretty lame
>>
>>334539237
>hip hop radio station in liberty city which is based off of new york
>no dmx, big l, big pun, rakim, biggie

i didnt get it either
>>
>>334538338
IV and V both have so much of this.
Dadrock and dadrap.
>>
>>334538338

Looking back, IV had a strange soundtrack because it seems more like the kind of thing for niche appeal, and not a massivly popular franchise. It had a fair amount of "ethnic" and cultural stations, like the jamaican dancehall, IF99, Tuff Gong, Fusion. It didn't seem to have a simple pop station which I think a lot of people missed. It even had that ambient station the Journey (which I loved, it was very cool).

It's a pretty good soundtrack and it definitely has a vibe of its own. But I can see why some people would say it's "boring" in the sense that a lot of it is more textural and not too melodic or upbeat. Also, I remember the Latin station being very unmemorable.

The DLC games had more spicier selections. Gay Tony in particular had the awesome electronic station, and the latin station was amazingly well chosen for catchy, memorable songs. It was also cool in The Lost and Damned, how they played legit heavy metal for the hardcore station. A cool diversion from the norm that worked wonders.
>>
>>334538823

Dont forget emminence front! I know it sounds gay, but as a Ukrainian, Vladivostok FM really reminded me of living at home listening to the shit music my parents blasted in the living room on Sundays.

Taken together, Episodes from Liberty City probably has the best soundtrack of the whole series. It even has Vice City FM. The hip hop station in Gay Tony was a little too poppy though, they could have used some more raw tracks.

This song is cool, but I swear that the stations in GTA IV were poorly programmed: it always felt like the same songs played on the stations every time they came on. >Hearing Iggy Pop rant about shit.
>Hearing Roy Ayers act kind of goofy.
>Hearing Roy Haynes reminiscence about playing Jazz with the legends, and airport security.
>Karl Lagerfeld being Karl Lagerfeld.

But I really did like hearing Jesco White ramble on about shit, and Keith Morris talk about his punk days.

They kind of dropped the ball with Los Santos Rock Radio and having Kenny Loggins on it. I would've liked it if it was a bit more LA centrist in the playlist, and if they got someone like Ray Manzarek (before he died), or Roger McGuinn to do the station.

Anyway, I found it funny that VWBR had a ton of bands from the SF area and not the LA area.

Flylo seems like a weird choice for a radio station, like it's mostly just one guy's songs. Never listened to Flying Lotus before but I guess I like his music then, nice for driving around. But it's pretty annoying how most of the stations just seem like a mishmash of everything, you'll get one good song and after that you're looking for another station to listen to, they play one okay song and then it totally changes again. There's I guess West Coast FM, Channel X and the rock station, everything else keeps changing all the time

Less content is not inherently bad. GTA IV was Rockstar's attempt to streamline the series into something more compelling and realistic. There was clearly a bigger focus on relationships in the game.

The problem I have with GTA IV is that it takes the physics ups its own ass because "Woah... the power of... next gen". It should've been a bit more like GTA V since GTA IV is so realistic to a point where it isn't fun anymore. Plus I felt as if the story just ended with no closure. It was too short.
>>
>>334560424

I like IV's singleplayer more. The missions in V are too involved and cinematic for my tastes. They all tried so hard to be epic that a lot of them just fell kind of flat. Also, switching characters was not a mechanic I was a big fan of.

I like IV's more simplistic mission setup, where it usually takes place in a location, and you just go and shoot the shit out of the place. The missions have a cool Gears of War style progression where you progress through an area. I like the shootouts in the Construction site, in the museum, in the warehouse, etc.

Also, for all the shit the game gets for being too "samey" there is actually a remarkable variety in the missions. Like the one where you chase the train, or the scooter chase in Middle Park, or when you had to free the prisoner from inside the tunnel. A lot of the missions are based around a single interesting concept which made them very immersive for me.

Also: I like the driving more, way more, in IV. It's sort of a love it or hate it thing I guess.
>>
>>334561308

It wasn't too short - there were a shitload of missions - it's just that most of the missions didn't focus on the main story, i.e., Niko is looking for someone in Liberty City. The story is just all over the place. Though I suppose a big part of the story is that Niko works for whoever pays, which gets him involved with all types of folks.

My real problem with the story was the ending. No matter which option you choose its a huge anti-climax.

The vanilla games LCHC was very memorable for me.

i used to think the bikes were bad, but after awhile controlling them became second nature. some of them, like the zombie and freeway, control as stable as cars, while the ones like the Sanchez and NRG 900 took some time getting used to, but once you did they were a lot of fun to ride.
>>
IV's radio stations sucked ass, I just spent the entire game using custom music

Shame he's not really on point in V, although I will say it was cool for him to get an in-game model and be part of the story, even as a joke.

It was shit. Deal with it.

Channel X was the better punk station.

GTA V has you robbing banks, jobbing out of planes, using a sub to steal a nuke, crashing 2 trains together, pretending to be a janitor so you can bomb a goverrnment building, killing a stand-in for zuckerberg, etc.

IV is just boring miserable forgettable missions in a gray city.

the only thing good about IV are the expansions with better protagonists and missions.
>>
why is it always GTAIV vs GTAV? they're both great games.

why is san andreas of vice city never brought up in these threads? is /v/ too young to have played them when they were new?
>>
>>334564395
>san andreas
it was mentioned, autismo
>>
>>334564395
>san andreas or vice city

I don't know where the fuck you have been, but that has been argued to death. Majority seems to favor Vice City for some reason.

>>334564469
oh my bad i didn't read the thread, i'm just drunk and wanted to shitpost
>>
>>334564505
i like san andreas more than vice city, but if SA is 10/10 then vice city is a 9.999999/10

like they're both amazing but i like san andreas just the tiniest smidgen more. probably because of the airstrip missions. those were nuts

Channel X needed more songs considering the short length of most of them

The Mouth Don't Stop, My War and I Don't Need Society are great though

The only thing I remember from GTA IV radio was some nigga screaming a bunch of hip hop nonsense (don't even know the genre) with very low quality sound. I think it also played in that bar with the pool. Fucking annoying.

I'd replace Fly Lo FM (it's good but not like the other two) with The Lab.
However the objectively best track on GTA V is this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8U9PUHCt444 even more when you're coming off of hectic non-stop action.

Post your GTA V characters

also Liberty Rock recieved completely new set of songs, it made it immediately my favourite station.

From what I heard of, they got actual DJs, and good ones, to compose tracklists for them in EFLC.

GTA V has pretty GOAT hip-hop. New shit on Los Santos, old shit with MC Eiht, and then you still have Fly-Lo and The Lab.
>>
>>334569787
Heard it right at start, thought it's cheesy and fun.
Turned out it was the only cheesy and fun thing about GTA IV, everything else was brown on grey seriousness.

Did Rockstar have plans of having comedy shows in 5. Kat and Ricky Gervais were great fun in IV. They should have gotten Burr in, as he worked with them in IV (or maybe Lost and Damned can't remember).

My brother always played K-Rose when I was watching him play. I can still remember those songs.

"All my exes live five feet underneath the ground!"

God I love that game.

>They all tried so hard to be epic that a lot of them just fell kind of flat
I thought the exact same thing.

After a while you just become numb to the whole thing. Oh, now I'm jumping out of an exploding plane. Neat. It reminds me of how movies these days keep throwing in TOTALLY EPIC moments that you just know were made to be turned into gifs.

>>334541568
GTA IV radio is classy, the best, I could actually listen to any of the songs from IV over V any day.
>>
>>334573530
>not listening to The Low Down, Blue Ark, Worldwide, and Space exclusively

>>334546163
Eminence Front was never in IV, guy. It was in San Andreas and Sleeping Dogs though.
