Quests in their straightest sense fits /tg/ because of roleplaying.
Problem was when everyone started hearing about quests other boards wanted to join the fun. Especially /a/. So much /a/. Mods would have none of it and relegated all quests to /tg/. The board was spammed with quests, some nothing more than anime waifu writefag simulator, that might have a small following, but would rack up dozens of threads a week that would be bumped to the top half of the catalogue by just sheer volume.
Board culture slowly evaporated and /tg/ became a semi containment-board for a bad idea that ran too far.

Fun thing is that the /v/ quests are more akin to what /tg/ quests used to be like, we're talking 2010-2011 /tg/ when the board was fun but chaotic.
For whatever reason drawfags fled and /tg/ quests got overwhelmingly swamped with low effort writequests. I believe there was some talk about how the mod of that time(a real unfunny neckbeard) banned drawfags because it wasn't /tg/ enough, but let writequests stay because muh roleplaying.
