Artorias Jr. is hard if your not quite familiar with Dark souls and how the hitboxes, invincibility frames most boss attacks work.
He is pretty much a standard boss

Attack his sides and back
There is little to change to this with his transformation either. A good thing to remember is in this game is that the closer to the opponents balls and can stab him in the ass your good unless the enemy throws out a move to specifically get you away from its balls and ass.

By far the hardest first boss in the Souls series. I liked it a lot though. Had a nice rhythm to him which helps you get familliar with the roll mechanics early on. Also transforms as a heads-up of things to come.

The "tutorial" boss was incredibly difficult as giftless Deprived, mostly the second phase because it's so hard to tell what the boss is doing. I didn't expect to get utterly obliterated for being a bit rusty right off the bat.
So far I've been extremely happy with the difficulty of the game, Dark Souls 2 flip-flopped between easy and annoying but this one usually feels fair.
My only major complaint is that almost every boss I've fought so far doesn't play nice with lock-on targeting, but the hitboxes are so strange that if you don't use lock-on you'll likely whiff despite appearing to be hitting at least part of the boss.

There's something off about the hitboxes, but at the same time some of them are more precise. In earlier games some of the bigger overhead hits that I feel like would normally hit you now correctly follow the models and go over your head. DS1 Bosses only fucked you up because you had no experience whatsoever with the series's gameplay, they were all super slow, had absurdly long windups on their attacks and sometimes just died too quickly.
DS2 bosses were a chore to fight against because they were even slower than DS1 bosses, but had a whole lot of HP to make the fight longer, it had some harder and more varied bosses, but other than that it most bosses were like afterthoughts.
Now this game, every single boss has multiple phases, even early bosses can fuck you up instantly, like the Crystal Wizard who is like a Pinwhell on mega steroids, can one shoot you easily, you have to catch him at least 3 times, and fills the screen with copies who can wombo combo your ass to death with magic spam.
And the tree, who is a Gaping Dragon on mega steroids, has minions, can hit you from a much longer range and faster, you must hit its weak spots, and also has two phases.
There are a bunch of bosses who can be compared to a DS1 counterpart, but are much harder and more varied, even Iudex Gundir would be much harder than Artorias if he had more hp and damage, because unlike Artorias, he can delay his swings, vary his combo count, hit behind him, and has a grab attack for turtlers.
This game is way harder than DS1 overall, I know because I played through that game several times, anyone calling it easier must be either baiting or just got WAY to used to the gameplay to the point they can parry any attack the first time they see it, barehanded, then I don't know what could be done to make the game challenging for those folk.

It's no use, no matter what weapons they'd put in the game people will still only use katanas. They're never the "best weapons" (still close) but they are complete babby-mode to use.

Don't listen to the ass hats. Don't rely too much on magic, though. Magic isn't as good in this game as it was in previous ones. At least from what I have gathered. It is so slow and leaves you open often to attacks. Some enemies are easier if you just get up in their shit and stab them. Try to find a weapon that scales with Int if possible. Pyro stuff is awesome and is a great supplemental set to invest into eventually.

Anyway, after every boss fight, I always think to myself: this would have been a lot easier if I had simply been more patient. I think most players die not because they aren't skilled because they are impatient.
Mistakes happen when you're being greedy and try to sneak in another hit for a combo because you think you have enough time before the enemy or boss does his next attack. It is always safer to be absolutely sure the enemy has finished his attack animation; then sneak in one or two hits then go back and wait it out. It takes some time but always works.

One of my favorite boss fights in any From game to date. Definetly up there with Lady Maria, Ludwig, Gehrman, Sihn and Artorias.
Died once to Gundyr from misreading his swings, then didn't die to a boss again until the miniboss Dancer guy before Road of Sacrifices.

The trick is to bait super safe attacks when he's in fire mode, usually his jump slam or a really good read + punish on his daggers. He actually has very little HP so just take solid single hits, don't get greedy.
Also, always dodge back and left (his right). Dodging right will put you in front of his sword, while dodging forward into his sword gets you lit up by his after flame.

There's lots of dead bodies making poses. If the boss gave an item like the Small Banner that you had to use there it would make a bit more sense because people could read the description for a hint or something. I actually think that should have been kept, rolls are just too OP for old players now. Then again, I would have been far more frustrated of the rolls timing was as strict when I played DeS, and maybe not had a great time. Dunno, gotta strike a balance. Doing it wrong. Watcher has the single most easily telegraphed, punishable attack PERIOD with his awful jumpsmash. The extra adds in phase 1 and his extended comboes in phase 2 are intended to make you think he's dangerous to deal with slowly but really you can manipulate him very easily.
