How is this game in comparison to the Bioshock series?

I see it get a lot of praise. Is the game as good as the hype?

The Bioshock series is a stripped-out shadow of this game. Levine did good on this, then kinda outed himself as a bit of a hack with the Bioshock franchise. SS2's sound design and atmosphere are excellent, but the engine is the Dark Engine from Thief Dark Age and Metal Project, graphically it dated hard, but some may find it appeals, leaving quite a bit to the imagination with muddied textures and extremely low poly count.
Don't expect handholding, a couple of sections will really rip your undies. Save all ICEBreakers you find, you'll know when you finally need them.
Headphones, lights off, usual rules.
That's the TriOptimum way.

I'd play it.

System Shock Enhanced worth 5 bucks?

Far superior.

I personally played SS2 for the first time in 2007, thinking I'd "prepare" for then upcoming Bioshock 1. To my own surprise, I found a super addicting GOTYAY, which I then played twice in a row. BS felt very streamlined and dumbed down console shooter in comparison afterwards.

Where as BS are story-driven FPS games with minor looting mechanic, SS2 is a scifi-fps-rpg-survival horror hybrid. It's closer to STALKER and Deus Ex in its gameplay. Obviously BS, Dead Space, Doom 3, etc, blatantly copied tons of SS2's features.

Go Navy first, and get maintenance, research, small arms and hacking skills.

system shock 2 is a real FPS RPG and not just a FPS with some minor "RPG" elements like bioshock or the newer fallout games. you got classes, stats, skilltrees, a real inventory, countless of different items and useables - it can be quite overwhelming for a new player.
the map is open and you are given no precise directions or questmarkers - you have to find your own way and it's easy to get lost at the beginning. paired with a tense atmosphere and genius sound design it makes for an outstanding survival horror expierence.

definitely. Just don't expect an FPS. It is quite literally like an 3D Metroidvania / dungeoncrawler.
>>
How viable is a crappy touchpad in SS2? Is the game hectic enough that I'll get completely rekt?
>>
>>321866508
>Dead Space (...) blatantly copied tons of SS2's features
Dead Space was System Shock 3 at one point.
>>
>>321866737
It's not what I would call hectic, but the interface is clunky enough that I would not want to add any extra clunk.

No bro, Bio Infinite is fucking rad and deep as hell yo, System SUCK is fucking outdated, clunky and just downright boring.

Not to mention that Bioshock 1 is literally the greatest game ever made, period.

>>321866851
Okay then. I guess the same is the case for Deus Ex?

but this is wrong, you are spoonfed the entire way with voice messages essential passwords are even saved to your pda notes section
funny how you left out ss1 map in your image

Bioshock is a dumbed down System Shock.
Thats really all there is to it.

They even have the same story theme (Capitalism vs Socialism)

>They even have the same story theme (Capitalism vs Socialism)

No. Authoritarianism vs libertarianism. The Shock games were not about economics.
>>

Combat is kind of shit but then again, so is Bioshock combat, the difference being that BS combat is more polished and SS2 combat is more varied.

RPG systems are more complex in SS2. Terribly unbalanced, obviously, just like in BS. Spoiler: heavy weapons suck apart from the first one, Standard rule, Exotics are a joke except for melee one, Energy... I actually don't remember, I think melee one is considered good?

Give it a try.

That's a dumb opinion, New Vegas is much more of an RPG than SS2.
>you got classes
You actually don't!
>>
>>321865034
+Vastly more complex design
+Shodan
+General better sound design
+Developed RPG systems (assuming you like those)

-Bioshock has a more unique setting and better visual design
-System Shock 2 is pretty janky

>>321867740
Pretty much yeah, but DE is more of a stealth game that you CAN often "rambo" too.

I'd really recommend a mouse for both.

was great back in the day but aged like sour milk

videogames get dumber every year, how can it age badly? just compare bioshock infinite to system shock2.
