The way I see it, there's almost entirely no point to ever choose Standard. The way the game works you can do basically everything with only a single character, so I don't see the purpose of paying extra just to do all of the same stuff over again with a different name and look.

Got bored halfway through the quests on HW, the OST was the only thing that kept me playing but those quests were too boring in the end.
The most fun I ever had was levelling over classes since I could just do dungeons, kill stuff and get loot, being forced to do shitty quests to unlock flying and dungeons is what really killed it for me.

Warlords of Draenor sunk WoW's sub numbers back to Vanilla levels. That's pretty damn impressive.
XIV will never bounce back after Heavansward. The game is already in a state of decline like the latter half of WoW's lifecycle. It'll get a bunch of activity shortly after expansion release and continue it's decline even faster shortly afterward.

Pandaland was actually a good expansion too. Blizz put a lot of effort into it. Patches released on an actual schedule and had a variety of content. Too bad people didn't dig the kung fu panda theme, otherwise it would have done better.
WoD managed to be the polar opposite of MoP though. Thematically it was widely received as fantastic, but it had jack fucking shit for content. Turns out no content and relying on mobile-tier timer games kills subs faster than having a kung fu panda theme does.

I do play FFXIV, but honestly I think the only reason I even play themepark MMOs is for the boss fights. Levelling and questing is mostly boring fetch quest stuff, dungeons outside the main fights are at best running through some hallways collecting some keys, no pvp to speak of, the combat doesn't feel particularly fun or satisfying on its own, no character customization or builds to differentiate you from anyone else, all of this makes me constantly question why I play FFXIV
But goddamn if there are nearly no other games these days with so many varied, fun, and difficult boss battles. Much less ones with cooperative mechanics where you and 7 buddies can get together to overcome something which requires coordination and timing to survive.

I actually dislike MMOs where you have to learn dozens of complex hotkey combinations. The problem with FFXIV isn't the simple combat options. Its that there's no variety to combat. About the most variety you get is with a Monk or Bard, where you have a 5-6 hotkey rotation. But you never need to go away from that rotation unless the Tank fucks up and you take aggro or if you're in an AOE zone.

I think this one of the things that FFXIV does very well. The boss fights feel epic and exciting. The music and presentation are perfect, and do a great job of hyping you up. However, most fights do boil down to dancing around mechanics.
But it still feels awesome whenever you and a group have been trying to down a boss and you finally do it. It feels great. I still remember beating King Mog EX for the first time. I was so sweaty, and I actually yelled out loud. It was so exciting.

There's no PVP so who cares?
PSO2 still gives you the option to go and work for your gear. Which you can then brag about and not spend any money on it.

I played PSO1 a ton. But my biggest problem with the original PSO was the bad camera and super slow character animations.
PSO2 fixed both of these things. Some people don't like it because its more action focused, but that's exactly why I do like it. Only reason I didn't keep playing the game is because there's no western server and I couldn't speak Japanese to party with people.

It really didn't expand much. Yeah, jobs have new tools and stuff but some of the decisions just feel backwards. Like making Bards into Black Mages.Although I fucking love my laser arrowsIt is 100% a completely different play style than what I was used to playing for about a year prior.
The environments are fucking awesome and beautfiul. The first time I saw the huge snowy area when it was clear weather, I was stunned, it looked so expansive and it had interesting geography.
The story was pretty good in my opinion too. But... The overall gameplay just felt the same. Beat bosses a few times a week. Collect tokens. Get new gear to fight better.
Can we really blame it though? That is quintessentially the MMO formula. It still felt like ARR, just with new areas and a few more tools that each job had. It really didn't feel that much different.
In short, they really really need to find new ways to spice the game up. It's just felt very samey for the past 2.5 years.

The two servers I play on seem to have 90% of the players compared to how it was at launch. Either everyone is just doing end game raiding or the game has lost a ton of people.

I picked up the game right around Christmas, and played a shitload of it through January and February. Got through most of the main quests into Heavensward and got to level 60whm + 60fisher + 60 culinarian.
Fairly burned out on it already and cancelled my sub as well. Might pick it up again in a couple months if I get the itch.
It's a good game, but not objectively any better or more replayable than any singleplayer Final Fantasy, and I just don't have the time to bother trying to build social ties in online games anymore.

Tedious grind. I got sick of doing the same shit over and over and over, usually with pick up groups, because I felt no reason to do so. It just turned into shit that felt like a job and I wasn't having actual fun. Not to mention that most of what I fought so hard to achieve became useless in the expansion. Not to mention that playing and having to deal with a bunch of retarded people was just far too stressful. The annoyance of bad group members. The worry of fucking up due to a sudden lag spike or my own ineptitude. The necessity of social interaction to get anything done. The constant fear hanging over my head of FC members asking personal questions. I have an actual mental illness that makes it very difficult to deal with things like this that most people may find very simple and negligible. By the end of my journey with FFXIV, I wasn't really getting any enjoyment out of it, so I saw no reason to go on. If I wanted to do tedious slave work (for which I actually have to pay to attend), I wouldn't be a NEET right now in the first place.

How do people even get in to an MMO that's been around for awhile now? There are so many story quests you have to slog through in FFXIV to get to the main content and most of it isn't very fun.

They get on when the catch up patches hit, and it's easy as shit to catch up. The thing is they only catch up to do story shit, because they'll never catch up to raiding.
It's hard as shit to catch up to "raiding" unless you start doing the new shit the day it releases, since it's all weekly gated gear checks. You WILL need at least 3-4 weeks worth of raid/tome gear to even start attempting the last raid instance of the 6 monthly patch, though you can maybe get by with whatever was the upper item level before the patch for the first two instances.
Most people unsub before their free 30 day trial ends anyway, or only sub for a month or two after.

I play XIV as a casual and I love it. I love it for all the reasons other people hate it. Lots of random mini game shit to kill time on optionally, combat is easy and slow, there's a story to work though.
I understand the dislike but I haven't enjoyed an MMO so much in ages. I used to play the original Guild Wars and BC WoW hardcore, but these days I just want to relax.

I played the FFXI version for 4 years (03-07), so the FFXIV BLM is a nice retirement for a casual fag like myself.
The rotation has changed though, if you want to make use of Fire IV and Blizzard IV, you have to keep up Enochian, which isn't hard to do, but it can be challenging when there's a lot of aoe spam

it's a shame because stance dancing and actually being able to contribute as a healer is really great but it isn't backed up by any other mechanics. i don't get a rotation, i don't get procs, i don't get any other systems, i just go clerics for a DoT and one spell because i have literally nothing else to do as a healer for large stints. at least with something like WoW, the DPS you do might not contribute but you get actual mechanics, resto restores MP and does splash healing by DDing, disc gets stacks to spend on a healing CD from DDing, etc. if i got to contribute AND have some class interaction there, it would be much better.
further than that though, the networking and interfacing is still quite bad. its gotten a lot better since alpha and beta obviously, but it gave me a bad feeling back then to be scrapping 1.x, largely in part due to the poor networking and interfacing, and here 2.0 wasn't exactly super responsive in any regard, either.
basically for all it does well, the sticking points still hurt it too much for my tastes. the class designs and combat is super streamlined, everything plays itself, yet the playerbase is still shit at progression. its so basic you'd at least expect it to be snappy, but it's not, it's full of dropped inputs, little mechanics and interaction, and its hard to enjoy a tab-target rotation game which is outclassed in responsiveness and subtly by any old shit like WoW, Rift, etc.

No you can't. PSO2 doesn't get after fucking content updates besides some fucking clothes. There's no PvP to keep you going while we're in a content drought. End Game gear is easy to obtain and the skill floor is extremely low and never rewarded for having the best gear.
