Well, I give it a 9 based on the hardware tech alone. There are no games I'd really want to play using a headset right now but the Vive looks like it's doing a great job on the tracking, optics and user interface software. And I trust Steam to improve on the software further.
The actual design of the thing could use some improvement and those hand controllers still look too big to me.

I was really on board with Oculus up until these past weeks. Even stayed on their side through the whole facebook debacle. But even though they've had better backing, resources and talent to create something amazing I feel like they've delivered an inferior product. The only plus of the Rift is the comfort/looks of it. Everything they are doing with their walled garden is wrong and I don't like their tracking solution or lower FOV.

I want to play Panzer Dragoon and House of the Dead in VR.
There are a few games that looked genuinely good like Hover Junkers, Fantastic Contraption, Budget Cuts, That Xortax game in The Lab, and Space Pirate Trainer. but they were mostly drowned out by the sea of early access shit and shovel ware that were the rest of the launch titles.
I dunno though though is a sea of shit like that really that unusual for any console launch? There were at least a few games that showed the potential of the Tech.

Well I can't afford the $2k+ that would be needed for both this and a PC capable of running it smooth. But even so, my decision has been made for me because I can't even order these things where I live. I do think it looks promising and I look forward to the next 4-5 years when it'll become more affordable and have more useful and interesting software to go with it. I don't think this will go great with gaming regardless of how hard they're pushing that, I think it's way better suited for social, interactive experiences.
