People always talk about BL2 like it ruined BL1, but the thing is, BL1 was a fucking shit game. The environments were bland, the characters were forgettable, there was no real story just "durr find the vault whoops it's an alien what a twist," no closure, no resolution, nothing. The DLC was all shit (hope you like driving your car across miles and miles of highway for hours on end). Let's not even mention the loot, which was boring and bland as fuck compared to the variety you get in BL2, or the fact that the higher difficulties were just "how much bullet sponge action can you handle before you quit."

I've been playing BL2 the last couple days and oh god the base game had scaling where half the side missions were trivial as soon as you finish one of them.
With the fucking DLCs doing any of them makes the whole game pathetically easy and it doesn't even attempt to scale anything properly.
I was pretty happy that the pre sequel was too short to have that happen on more than a couple quests.

I just finished Claptastic DLC yesterday and oh my god it's so much better than a main Pre-sequel campaign. Was it developed by Gearbox itself?
Smaller and cleaner maps , so you know where you need to go and don't spend 5 min running around and great visuals with a dose of nostalgia.Even story was good, even though it was a little bittersweet . Outside of tedious boss fight where you know you're FUCKED when he's launching his rocket strike (and he's firing it every ten seconds) it was an amazing experience. I wish I could replay it without playing main game first.
Shame about 2k Australia through.It's such a big jump from a base game so I feel like cancelled 5 DLC could be amazing too.

Also, everyone saying BL1 is better than BL2 is either a casual or is too nostalgic for the first game. The first game only had a better loot system. The problem with TPS is replayability.
For your first playthrough in Borderlands 2 you could:
>Play only the mainquest and a few sidequest along the way
>Play only the mainquest and Torgue DLC
>Play only the mainquest and Scarlett DLC
>Mix it up
>Want more? Play Hammerlock and Tina DLC
>Want to challenge yourself? 9 raid bosses
>Want something more challenging at lvl 72? OP levels.
With the TPS there is only one path you can follow, Claptrap's DLC is only after you finish the main game, which makes the experience with multiple characters kind of repetitive and there is only a single raid boss (The Sentinel). Is just very barebones.

I am of the opinion that raid bosses are tedious and not terribly challenging or rewarding.
TPS was much more focused and it wasn't possible for half the game's content to become piss easy and not worth playing during that playthrough.
I can't stress how bad I think BL2's level scaling is it's a lot worse than any Bethesda game.

By the time those two were in the game I had given up on playing raid bosses unfortunately.
Also at max level playing the third playthrough difficulty is just like rubbing your face on sandpaper unless your build is OP.
Same for raid bosses mostly.
I just don't think that a few super tough enemies and a difficulty where everything can one shot you is satisfying content.
I am glad some people who really enjoy that sort of thing got what they wanted but I hope they don't have as much of that in the next game, or that they at least balance everything better.

Brick had a lot of mobility, Mordecai had the cool as hell revolvers and Bloodwing cooldown reduction (if you went sniper) and damage and Lilith was Sanic (pretty boring besides going fast though). Roland was just a turtle that was barely useful because you killed enemies way too fast with your weapons anyway.

I like the Borderlands setting overall. The games have been mechanically hit or miss, though.
BL1 had a better loot system than the other two, but its character classes ended up being pretty bad (all action skills became next to useless in later levels, except for the utility provided by Phasewalk)
BL2 definitely improved on the classes, with more significant ability choices and an extra active ability you could pick up (the "melee override") in addition to keeping the action skills more effective in later levels. However, the mechanical shift towards more MMO-like behavior was fucking retarded, with a godawful loot system and "raid bosses" that do not suit this type of game at all. That shit appeals to Koreans who are already accustomed to mindless grinding for thousands of hours, it doesn't fly with people who play shooters.
TPS was basically the same as BL2: useful class skills, shit loot system. Combat was a tad better with lasers and cryo weapons (minus e-tech) and frequent low gravity environments that allowed for more vertical movement.
For BL3 we need, at the very least:
- return to BL1 loot system or at least something better than what the other 2 have
- BL2/TPS style skill trees, hopefully with more than one or two active abilities
- slightly darker writing and less memester jokes
- more varied weapon generation, ideally with a weapon modification system
and then it'll be decent

If you're getting oneshot, you simply have a bad build. If you say "I don't want to minmax to be able to play UVHM" or "use an OP build", UVHM is not for you. UVHM, especially OP8, requires you to be good at this game and understand the mechanics and how to actually play a certain class.
