Building a retropie solved this for me. Just get an ibuffalo snes usb pad, they're amazing pads, and it's all the joys of a console without any of the hassle.

Look, son, the website where you downloaded the emulator has the instructions and if you didn't download it from the emulator's website go to it and look up the directions. Most Emulation sites have detailed instructions on how to set up you PC for it.
