Geese countering every fucking thing is how his boss fought in RBFF. The intro of the trailer is a reference to his intro in FFS, and so is Ryo's "The challenger" thing, it's a reference to his secret boss fight in FFS too. And the goddamned AOF hard hitting sound at the end of the trailer.
All that condensed in the same trailer is pure nostalgia wanking and they know what they're doing, it's great.

Geese is not just some normal dude in KOF. Every appearance he's ever made has been special. His last canon appearance was on the boss team, which you fought before Chizuru/Goenitz. Even his non canon appearances like 2k2 UM and Neowave make him a boss character in some capacity. He's not THE boss, but he is still a major antagonist and his return is pretty big in my opinion.
