Wrong.

But at least it runs faster?
Wrong again. "Faster" doesn't mean shit, when it does background download and update like every other day, slowing fairy decent laptop to point where even watching HD movies is problemative.
Not to mention hour-long updates every now and often when I turn damn thing on.
Of course, user is not informed about system updating until it restarts if without asking for user's permission. GG, hope you didn't do anything important fag.

I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Ubuntu, is in fact, Ubuntu/Windows, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Ubuntu plus Windows. Ubuntu is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning Windows system made useful by the NT kernel, system libraries and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by Microsoft.
Many computer users run a modified version of the Windows system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Windows which is widely used today is often called Ubuntu, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the Windows system, developed by Microsoft.

Windows10 is the cancer that is killing technological advancement. I'm not scared of Win10, I'm scared of what it implies for the future.

You're being a retard, or not taking all variables into consideration. Valve has a near monopoly on the PC market place, and there's no way in hell will they let Microsoft into their turf that easily.
Microsoft has competition, at the very least in this field. Game enthusiasts effect the PC environment far more than you realize. There's plenty of resistance to Microsoft when it comes to Win 10, Microsoft will eventually back off and be content with their monopoly in the office environment.

Even if you don't care about any security concerns the fact that Windows 7 will stop getting support for new hardware in less than two years should. Like it or not Windows 7 is a legacy platform now. You likely won't be able to upgrade your hardware after 2018, and all support from Microsoft ends after 2020 at which point there will be a number of remote exploits that you will not be able to defend against and for which fixes will not be forthcoming even if you wanted them.
>>332549214
You mean, Something happened.
>>332550152
That already happened. Security updates have been shown to be compromised by the data collection jew.
Anyone on 7 right now may as well bend over and spread their asshole for that W10 update.
I'm trying to 'upgrade,' but whenever I open the launcher, it loads for a second, then does nothing.
Anyone have any ideas? Google has done nothing for me, only people with similar problems had it fixed with things that didn't work for me.
>>332550152
You can always defend against remote exploits, that's a retarded statement which shows very little understanding of networks. I could run a Windows XP box on my network for 24/7 and it'd never be exploited unless something on the path to it failed or the exploiter gained physical access.
But at that point it's not a remote exploit anymore, is it?
>>332550553
Maybe it's the 1st law of robotics at work. It's trying to protect you from itself.
>>332550605
The built in firewall in Windows is defective by design. Most Windows users aren't network professionals with external hardware protection.

Linux
Is there a way to get rid of all the bloat that 10 has? My laptop should be able to run stuff far better than it does but W10's bullshit is crippling it.
>upgraded from 7 3 months ago
>doing fine, not really much of a difference
>download KI yesterday, finally cashing in on win 10
>start that shit up
>critical structure error
>preparing automatic repair loop on startup, winload is fucked or aomething
>system restore doesn't work because it can't fucking get to that point
>all solutions amount to use system restore or reinstall
Never again
>>332546669
Linux. Debian testing, specifically.
And unlike the hellspawn that is windows, it actually works.
>>332550152
If we've got dedicated autists who still manage to keep Windows 95 in a condition to browse 4chan >>332545271, we can keep Windows XP and 7 working indefinitely. Reminder that the Bongs use XP to operate their nuclear subs and MS will probably be shoveling low-key support for until those vessels are retired.
>>332544769
No, Touko is so beautiful. Sorry, Nanami, I can't stay with you. You may end up dead too.
>>332551310

>>332550823
I don't rely on the built in firewall. I have actual network infrastructure. As do most gamers I know. You don't have to be a network professional to be literate about basic network infrastructure.
Also, you normalfags seriously under estimate how hard it is to remote exploit something which is on a basic home network. It's almost impossible unless they have a vulnerable service open (which they rarely do these days) after the whole clusterfuck that happened to Windows XP with its billions of open services. These days you'll be lucky to get a ping response.
You have a better chance exploiting a commercial server run by professionals.

All of this needs to be compiled into a digestible list that you can show to retards. This is straight from the horse's mouth. W10 is fucking trash.
But marketers have been slowly integrating themselves into this board so now at least I know not to trust anyone who says W10 is good.

>>332547581
What theory?
Not yet no. I mean... I'll never upgrade, but if I needed to do a fresh install I'd probably use win10
I don't get why they're so desperate to get me to upgrade though. They're offering it to me for free, which is irrelevant as I've always used windows for free but I just don't get these pressure tactics? Why are they so desperate?
I'm not going to change my behavior in the slightest. They're not going to gain anything from me. I'm a technical power user, I can use any OS with proficiency, they're never going to restrict me or direct me in any way so why this heavy desperation?
I just can't really grasp it. And the answer isn't "the botnet" or telemetry or any shit like that as most of it is implemented in stuff I already use.
What is the real deal here? Can anyone give me a real answer here? As in.... something I haven't already heard here or thought of before?
>>332524982
Is there a book that can help me understand this? I have only the most rudimentary programming/computer knowledge from my required CS course for engineers at college.
im still regretting upgrading from xp to 7 why would i ever go to 10?
>>332533795
Most, if not all, medical and science related machines still use XP. It's the most stable software and all medical machines are made to run on XP.
XP-tan is still alive. She's in good hands in thd science field.
>>332562514
They want to turn Windows into a service. Simple as that; and with that kill any chance that it'll ever get another major overhaul: from here on, any future versions of Windows will be using the jenga-tower that is 10's OS as their base, and you'll be paying for "features" a-la vidya DLC.
>>332562514
They're just trying to get in on what Apple and Google have been doing for years and are making an absurd amount of money doing, i.e. massive data collection for commercial purposes and a built-in store to collect revenue from. The fundamental business plan behind the whole "OS as a service" thing is to get casual users to treat their PC like a smartphone and waste hundreds of dollars on microtransactions through their store rather than just a one time purchase of an operating system, which casual consumers rarely if ever actually buy.
>>332533795
The only OSes you could say really died were 98 and ME-tan. Poor ME is all but extinct, and everyone skipped over 98 for 98se or 2000.
I really like Touko's design.

Have you ever upgraded to W10 before?
I worked at an IT helpdesk as an intern for half a year and I'm not sure if you know this but I can tell you that upgrading has a 40% chance of completely ruining your OS i.e. shit like contextmenu's don't function explorer.exe doesn't start up, so your taskbar just never shows up or anything. The reason why is because it's still in a state where both your old and new OS are functioning creating this error hell so whenever you interact with something the new OS and the old one clash A clean install reduces the chance of a ruined OS but it's still there.
I'm not a programmer but I definitely remember shit like contextmenu's being awfully inconsistent in W10 and the fact that making Settings a fucking app-based system and having a limited control panel is pants on head retarded. These two always manage to be at odds with one and another. FFS why not make it either Settings or better yet, LEAVE CONTROL PANEL AS IT WAS
Would you have lewd time with 7-tan?

It's not about them knowing who you are but rather what you look at on the internet
I once walked into my room and my computer was in the middle of installing Windows 10 without me having opted for it.
It was fucking scary. I was able to get Windows 7 back by refusing to accept the Licenses/agreements thing, but Windows 10 actually installed on my computer without my permission.
>upgraded to windows 10
>have problems with generic HID devices
>too lazy to reinstall 7
>try linux on a virtual machine
>all the software alternatives look like they were made by children and have about half the functionality
Why are they making the OS harder to recover from as well?
They're keep removing recovery options. You can only use some of them after having booted up properly.
It's like there is no one at microsoft that has any technical experience. No one that has ever found themselves in a catch 22 situation with the software before.
Just how dumb are they? Why are they making things harder for the users rather than easier?

It's just a part of human mentality. We hate being accused of doing something wrong and will quickly accuse others of doing so if it makes us seem less guilty.
