I understand that Polygon is trying to appeal to their audience when they talk about gender politics and relations and I'm all for a critic/reviewer injecting personality into their review. What I don't like however is when a site like Polygon let's shit like sexualisation drag their scores down and take it as a personal offence. In fairness, they aren't as bad nowadays. They mentioned Quiet from MGS being sexualised in one little piece in their article but that was about it. But in older reviews, like the one they did for Bayonetta 2, they had a significantly lower score than every one else and I think that was to do with their belief that the sexualisation of Bayonetta was "gross, pandering, misogynistic, etc." as they put it. Off topic, I think this is the reason why review scores are bollocks and I admire websites that don't have to have a score for their reviews. But regardless, it just pisses me off to see Polygon's stubborness affect their overall opinion on a game. If they want to bitch about gender politics, go ahead. I probably won't read it but I'm sure some will enjoy it. But I don't think it's smart for a website to have this as one of their central points in a review and have that drag down the general consensus on a game when in reality, most people probably don't care.
