the leveling experience is great up until you hit max level and dont forget the giant slog of going through story content to unlock the expansion areas, so you hit a brick wall at 50, instead of letting you go to the expansion and level like any sane MMO they force you to do all the story content which is 20 hours of boring fetch quests with an occasional 50 minute que boss fight, which your group may or may not be able to due so its back to back 50 minute ques until you fight 7 other mouth breathers that can dodge giant circles on the ground

There's two types of raiding. Story/casual raiding which is basically LFR tier and Savage raiding which is like mythic raiding but in a 8 man setting instead of 20+ people.
Be prepared to formulate strategies, minmax gear and consumables, study rotations and parses, and more if you want to clear the toughest Savage encounters.

Current Savage is pretty mellow vompared to older coil or gordias. Being 8 man content also takes a lot of the wow feeling out, so when big raids are your thing opt out of xiv.

I'd say Midas Savage is more indepth than Gordias Savage. The only hard fight in Gordias Savage was A3S, everything else was basically a stale DPS check. A6S and A8S are pretty damn tough.

Savage raiding sounds fun, but is the highest level raiding only 8 people? I guess that makes it quite intimate and you become pretty close to your party if you stick together, but it seems very small. It also sounds easier to make it more difficult when scaling to 8 people rather than 20.

Yes 8 man is the highest level raiding. Imo, I don't like WoW's 20 man mythic setup. It makes it harder to find people who share not only the same raiding skills as you but also shares the same time schedule as well. There's also a bit more room for error with more people.
In FFXIV, there's not much room for error with 8 people and it's a bit easier to form a static team of people who have similar schedules/skills as you.

It depends on what healing class you play. White mages are generally expected to be the main healers, while sneaking in a little bit of damage when they can. Scholars are back-up healers that focus on shields when necessary but putting most of their time into doing damage. Astrologians can't do much damage themselves but have RNG-based buffs they can extend to the party to increase everyone else's damage.

3.0-3.1 was pretty much the only time the option to meld accuracy for healers was absolutely fucking fucked. In ARR accessories weren't FIFTY fucking ilevels behind and as such not a huge detriment to your main stat (MND) to use and meld if it's what you really wanted. Accuracy in dungeons was also never really a problem for healers until around 2.4 and compared to then and now it was like 90% hitrate vs the around 50-60% it is now. The free accuracy stat on gear was trivial for healers ALWAYS.

All three healers have similar healing potentials scholar just has two fairys that define what you will be doing more of. With selene out you're more of an off healer, buffing and cleansing the raid and you dps a lot. With Eos you pretty much take a main healer role. Since you're always gonna be paired up with astro or white mage then you will be taking a mitigation off healer role because thats what scholar does best.
Scholar also has the best healer dps in the game, aoe and single target. Any white mage that tells you otherwise is an idiot because they don't have the mp to sustain holy spam.

Am I supposed to hold and CDs for wildfire? The only one I currently hold is B4B because of the 80s CD and I think it might be worth it to save it a little bit each time so it lines up. Fire 2 then Flare... followed by a server tick in ice phase before repeating that... VS Fire 2 then Flare, then 1 or 2 more flares (and under RS) before going into ice phase.
On ANY "amount of trash" spending more time in Fire phase and less time in ice phase is a DPS increase. On large pulls in anti-tower its not unusual for me to finish around 2,000 and the WHM's burst is similar or better, so you can do a lot better than 1,700 on AoE.
I'll even hold onto Convert and RS if I think our group is fast enough that we might get to boss before they come back, but holding onto Swiftcast?? A 60s CD? Full retard.

I want RDM to be a melee DPS with emphasis on magic. Kind of like a spell fencer. Rapier in one hand, magic in the other. You can enchant your rapier with different elements or "stances" similar to astral/umbral stances on BLM.

Even if FFXI, RDMs didn't work. Red Mages are supposed to be a little good at melee, magic damage, and healing, while not being an expert at any of them.

When the SCH has all DoTs up, they switch to healing and the other healer switches to dps.

ASTs "gimmick" at release was being shit. Diurnal never played signifantly different from WHM, it was just weaker in every single way and had less skills. AST's shittiness in 3.0 doesn't say shit about the viability of alternative healer playstyles, it just demonstrated the fact that if you copy-paste a job, then remove 5 or 6 skills and reduce all numbers by 20-35%, that job will be shit compared to the original. It's not that DoT's are less damage, it's that they take TIME to do the full damage. It takes THIRTY FUCKING SECONDS for Bio 2/Combust 2 to do their full 400/450 potency. THIRTY SECONDS. And you can't recast them to do more than 400/450 every 30 seconds. How is this so fucking hard to understand?
SCH only wins in total DPS because of sustain BEYOND 3minutes because they don't run out of MP. AST is far better at keeping up thanks to the 66% boost to LA in 3.2 but they are still nowhere close to SCH levels.
In a land where all healers had infinite MP and no accuracy issues, SCH would literally always be lowest DPS of the 3 healers right now.

Yes you do, its called refreshing dots, WHICH ALL FUCKING HEALERS have to do. Dots also do damage while you're doing mechanics, Dots are the primordial part of healer dps. You also fucking ignore Energy Drain OGCDs in between heals and Ruin 2 spam when moving.
I can tell you've never actually parsed AST or SCH because when you parse each for 3 minutes this is EXACTLY what happens:

Because you're parsing for 3 minutes, you can only use PoM once and Assize twice just like the Scholar can only use Dissapation once.
