Nice sweeping generalization. In terms of home gaming systems my most happy memories are from the C64, the PS2 and the Genesis. I've been playing games since 1980, and I've owned pretty much every system that came my way. If your frame of reference for what's retro is "what I had when I was a kid", and you assume it's the same for everyone else, no wonder you can't string together a reasonable argument.

Honestly, /v/ never really had a lot of Dreamcast discussion over the Xbox, PS2 and GC. In 6th gen threads, it would always get overlooked or discussed for a little bit until people dismissed it for it's 4 year run and all the games that went on the Xbox, GC and PS2.
At least with /vr/ it had a home, it can be discussed there and I bet there is a thread on there right now for a Dreamcast discussion. It's a lot easier to start a PS2 thread on /v/ than it is a Dreamcast thread.

Most people who bought Dreamcasts were Sega fans already. Parents only bought PS2s, Gamecubes or Xboxs for their kids. The Dreamcast audience was much older than the PS2 audience.
Also, a lot fewer people got a Dreamcast. The numbers aren't there and the style of game is much more in line with 5th gen than 6th gen.

Early 2000s and PS2 were easily the best time for games.
Going back and playing PS2 games is kinda nuts, there's a lot of design issues that got addressed with newer game design. It's just a shame that developers are afraid to push difficulty or make a game with depth now a days though.
