Actually you just need to catch and purify all shadow Pokemon, you can go through Mt.Battle with a full team. It doesn't matter either way since you go through Mt.Battle through the Battle Now mode so it'd be transferred to your PC, not your party

If i remember correctly lugia also had psycho boost which was looked amazing on the game boy games.
I could never get hyped for this game cause it just looked like the whole point was getting Lugia, who I never even liked much.

I bought it for Lugia and stayed for the everything.
After playing solely handheld Pokémon the game had great graphics, innovative gameplay(!) while still being familiar, good OST and an actual story. The only minus I'd call the removal of the open world aspect, but atleast you don't have to deal with HMs, and shadow pokémon beat wild grass any day.
