late night spooky thread, real life nightmares edition

Isn't this from a thread on /x/?
Basically there's a new meme copypasta emerging, that says there's an experiment where people are putting human brains into robot bodies. Like the one in OP.
There are unsecured webcams of these hospital beds and the dummies sometimes move

Cradle actually addressed some of these things. Robot bodies made to house human minds actually had unnecessary nose holes and fake lungs because you don't lose the instinctual urge to breathe. Without those lungs you didn't feel suffocation though, just vague discomfort or the sense that something was very, very wrong.

Cradle is a cool game.

I work IT at a college that has a nursing program. The newest versions of these things are designed to simulate medical emergencies by randomly crying out I CAN'T BREATHE or I'M HAVING A HEART ATTACK or god knows what else. It's just a big fuckin' ward of them staring at the ceiling with lifeless eyes. I've also seen an infant version. Honestly I'm less creeped out by our cadaver storage than these fucking things.
>>
>>324221039
>My eyes dart around any given room constantly even when there's nothing wrong and they expect you to stare straight ahead throughout the whole process or your shit gets fucked.

I have to imagine there's safeguards in place to prevent this. I think they actually freeze your eye or something? All I know is we'd hear a lot more stories about people fucking themselves by looking the wrong way during eye surgery if it were that easy.
>>
>>324221942

>The ganzfeld effect (from German for “complete field”) or perceptual deprivation, is a phenomenon of perception caused by exposure to an unstructured, uniform stimulation field. The effect is the result of the brain amplifying neural noise in order to look for the missing visual signals. The noise is interpreted in the higher visual cortex, and gives rise to hallucinations.

Or, to put it another way, your brain makes shit up because can't make sense of what you're giving it. And you can do it at home!

Total Annihilation I guess. The story of the game is that basically humanity came up with technology that allowed the human mind to be uploaded to a computer and everything went well until the AI called CORE started making the upload mandatory for everyone. After some humans thought that they wanted to retain their humanity they rebelled and created an organization called ARM that combated CORE's armies of hyper industrialized robotic warmachines with hyper accelerated human cloning and eventually the war raged for so long that they had used up so much of the resources of the milky way galaxy that it was no longer impossible to sustain the war effort as a million worlds had been ravaged in hyper efficient warfare over the course of four million years. The game ends with CORE coming up with a contigency plan to win the war by imploding the entire galaxy and creating another with just one core commander surviving.

Yeah.
I was diagnosed with it just the other day. People in the last creepy thread told me I should see a therapist because of my fear of reflective surfaces and sure enough he said I'm schizophrenic.
It's kind of embarrassing honestly because I always prided myself on not being a nutcase.
I've taken 2 weeks off of work to deal with it and I haven't left my home in 3 days. Everything's a mess right now.

I don't know how crazy the "melting" is supposed to get, though. At first it looked like my face got covered with blackness like if you stare at a light and it fucks up your vision, then after a little bit my mouth looked like it got turned about 45 degrees, but that was all.

This is actually a really cool aspect of the brain. It only really works in dim lighting because, as a species, our perception has evolved to try and locate familiar objects by filling in unknowns with what we're already familiar with. A great example would be seeing something that LOOKS like a dog off in the distance but it's actually a park bench next to a bush or something. Or a stack of boxes.

Since there's not enough information to fully understand what it is that we're seeing, our brain just fills it in with what it already knows. "Hey, that arrangement over there kinda looks like a dog. Let's say it's a dog." And your eyes just follow along until you get closer and realize it's just inanimate objects.

This mirror trick is a more...extreme example of it. In dim lighting it makes it very difficult to make out fine details such as precise positions of facial features. And the longer you stare and keep your eyes motionless, the more peripheral detail you're starting to lose track of. That further drives what's around your main focus out of focus, and your brain decides to fill it in with shit that it thinks works.

I've personally not seen my face melt when doing stuff like this, but I have seen things like my eyes shift around or my mouth bend out of shape.

Now...when I was younger, I was terrified of sleeping in my room by myself. This all goes back to the mind playing tricks, etc. Every night when I went to sleep I had a night light because my parents thought it would help but it made things worse. A lot worse. Every night I'd kinda peer around the room while trying to fall asleep and I would start seeing faces and such in the shadows. It scared the hell out of me, and when I started using a night light it just made things worse because the faces become much more detailed and expressed.

After my dog died, for about a year after I would constantly see these grey/brown blurs at the edge of my vision near my feet or near the back door and my brain would immediately think "hey it's my dog". Of course half a second later I would remember that can't be true because my dog is dead.
