Personally, I want a prequel to Pokemon Red and Green/Blue.
Let me explore a large region which is under some kind of civil war between two teams.

The other team, led by Giovanni, Team Starlight, wants to encourage battling and fighting, whilst secretly running an underground theft business.

Give me a rival who's actually intimidating, and who shares the exact same dream. Prequels generally fucking suck, there are a few exceptions, like DMC3 and MGS3. But a game should like have like one prequel and then be done.
MGSPW and MGSV added nothing to the story really. A game about the Boss or Sparda would just be there to show what we already know mostly, and sometimes letting stuff just be nothing more than a legend is more powerful than showing.
Focus on moving forward, not dwelling on the past. Prequels are mostly annoying because they tie way too many threads together and make it so that everyone has some kind of history together because PREQUEL lol.

Not every prequel does that, but you're right about a lot of them tending to tie way too many threads together.
Depending on how you set up the character the series it's centered on it's also a nice way to make the character act in ways they never would in the mainline games.
Xenoblade chronicles X
I know it won't happen but just hear me out.
I read the story for the First Days on Mira on the Japanese Xenoblade chronicles X website and it was interesting.
The main Character would be Nagi and the secondary main character would be Vandam, like Shulk and Reyn.
Reading the stories on the Japanese website shows that Nagi's character is really well written (for X standards) and is definitely main protagonist worthy, same with Vandham.
The whole game would take place on the White Whale and it's about when the aliens caught up with the ship.
