I have a 2013 asus rog jw. I would recommend the newer models, they are,very durable and have a very,nice finish. Specs are ok,but you are buying a gaming laptop so you shouldnt be anal. The newer models fixed the hindge issues, so it should be a decent investment.

You won't literally be using it outside or on your lap.
But you need it because you'll be constantly moving around. And you don't want to carry about a monitor, tower, speakers, and a fuckton of cables around every time.

Agreed but it's still worth the mobile investment. You don't even need a high-end laptop. 1,000-1,500 bucks will net a very good one for most games.

You can easily buy a gaming laptop for $1500 that runs modern AAA games well.
I have a 2yo $800 Dell Laptop(Dell is pure shit btw) and I can play MGSV TPP with most effects on and still get constant 60FPS.
Hell I can even play FO4 with semi-constant 50FPS, and it's a really poorly optmized piece of shit.

I recommend Clevo/Sager, they are fairly upgradeable, I have a 770M and could upgrade to 8XXM or 9XXM series, or upgrade the CPU or whatever. The X70M GPUs work quite well, but if you want overkill and have money to blow X80M is probably the way to go.
You can get them with no OS and a variety of different hardware setups from resellers. My 17" cost me like ~2200CAD 2 years ago and it ran FO4 better than I expected it to. You wouldn't even need to spend this much for the same performance now.

FYI, the reason you can't upgrade things is generally that they are welded so you destroy the motherboard doing anything.
If it isn't welded, it really isn't a big deal to replace parts - within limits - if you know what you're doing.
