I really had loads of fun with online.
I like it, it's one of the few game sequels that feel like it actually improves upon it's predecessors. Although some of the soft body physics from IV I wish were in V, the way NPC's acted and ragdolled made the game much more fun than it actually was.

I'm surprised by how quickly the heists died in online. I get more random invites to rooftop rumble these days than I ever ever get for heist missions. When they first dropped I had to disable notifications because it was a constant stream of them for hours.

Awesome technical achievement, bad game unless you just like dicking around in the open world. The missions were too scripted, meaning they didn't take advantage of the sandbox at all. And the writing is cynical teenage garbage even by GTA standards.
I think the highpoints of the series are Vice City, San Andreas, and Episodes from Liberty City (Ballad of Gay Tony, Lost and Damned). The series needs a gameplay overhaul badly.

Then the history got boring because of how plain the characters were. Lamar would have been a much better choice compared to Franklin. His missions were pretty entertaining.

IV had better gameplay mechanics than V. V sacrificed gameplay for spectacle and cinematic setpiece moments. IV had more enterable buildings, taller buildings, better physics, better pedestrian interactions, better gunplay, better radio.
The downsides of IV were that the missions were slightly repetitive and that your buddies were constantly ringing you up, but both of those problems were solved in the DLC episodes.

The story is going nowhere fast then makes a huge fucking leap where all this actions going on (all of which is pretty shittily written) then goes back to droll ass shit.
The gameplay is fun, but shallow. Really shallow. I mean its shallow for a GTA game and a GTA game basically exists for you to steal an unlimited supply of cars to crash and ramp off jumps.
Multiplayer was an immense improvement over GTA 4 but it was still really awkward and not terribly fun. I can't believe those threads on vg I'd seen for so long with people obsessed with grinding shit in that game to buy digital multiplayer shit just to say they had it!
Like holy SHIT I can't fathom how bored someone would be to find multiplayer entertaining for more than 10-20 hours.

I loved GTA IV for its simplistic multiplayer, and did wish for open world multiplayer, but getting little money and getting fucked by random people makes it unfun. Specially when you are still level 29!
I like SP since its more friendly with your actions, but Online can make you lose and not progress till you buy shit. Even robbing a store can turn harder than doing a heist, and that's pathetic.
Anyway, GTA IV is shit in performance but a good game. Heck, you could play the arcade game cube which was really a nice touch. Something that GTA V IS MISSING FOR SOME REASON.

GTA V is the best of the GTA series and one of the best games of all time. It's definitely the biggest technical achievement in gaming.
While Vice City was a cute rendition of Miami and San Andreas had cute renditions of LA/LV/SF, GTA V practically IS Los Angeles. Obviously the size isn't even close but the overall feel is totally fucking there. It's uncanny.
The fluidity in gameplay, physics, character control, etc. is incredibly realistic and hasn't been matched by any other game. It isn't even close. That's without even mentioning the movie-level story execution. I've said this before but GTA V actually feels like you're playing a movie, it's insane and completely worth the hype (as well as the billions of dollars). The argument used to be (with GTA IV) "San Andreas has more to do" but even that doesn't hold any weight at this point. GTA V has fuckloads of high-quality content that far surpasses 99% of the competition. You might not be able to use dildos as weapons but there's Saints Row for that "EPIIIIIC SUPERHERO XDDD" garbage.
Really though, I'm tired of this "GTA V is bad" meme. Nothing has come close since its release two years ago.

I understand what you're getting at, but a twelve year old can tell you how a car in a game should handle. It's intrinsic to good design that cars should control far differently than in real life. Most cars in GTAIV were cumbersome at best to control.

If execution doesn't matter to you, fine, but to me it does and that's one of the key reasons why I will never enjoy Bethesda games (aside from the shit writing of course). The execution, the lack of high-quality facial animations/physics ruins it for me. And GTA IV is dated as fuck compared to V, hence why I prefer the latter. The story is just so much more cinematic, the voice acting is better too, I just fell in love with it immediately. Compared to an actual film it isn't great but it stands leagues and leagues ahead of its competition IMO.
Naughty Dog is probably #1 in that regard I suppose but they're working linearly.

Amazing game.
3 playable characters really were something new and you could switch between them almost any time and they would be doing something. Story made sense more than any other GTA. Previously you always worked for some goofy boss who was hilarious XD!!! But V was different, all 3 characters had different motivation and in the end it all came together very well.
Fact that they managed to make V run on 10 year old hardware just blows my mind. And 2 years later it looks so amazing on next gen or PC with added bonus of First Person.

The characters in GTA V held my interest man but I can see where you're coming from. It was a fun game, I'm glad I waited for the PC release, but I still enjoy playing on consoles with friends.

It was OK.
There are still huge rendering and crash bugs that keep some people from playing the game sometimes. Rockstar will not be fixing these. Update your drivers all you want, will not make the game more stable.
SP is meh. I couldn't connect with any of the characters and none of them felt like I was building anything - they were all pidgeon holed into their little niche already. Previous GTAs had the progress of you moving up in the world. This one - not so much.
Online you do get to see some of that progress, but it is tedious as fuck unless you drop the dosh on a Shark card or just hack your dollars and hope they don't ban you for life. Getting the mega yacht and some of the super high pricetag items is grind tastic without dropping money or cheats. Less grinding in a Korean MMO for that shit.
50 hours in an I'm thoroughly bored. Probably 5 of those 50 hours were spent staring at loading screens or AFK waiting for the game to load. Brutally long load times
