I've been Melee-depraved since the last big Tournament. Nobody in my uni played and now that I'm on vacations my friends that play are away for Holidays.
On top of that, I'm living in South-America so Netplay isn't quite possible and I'm stuck to playing at Sm4sh locals for a while.
Only this one time I got to a little tournament without set-ups to friendlies and first round had to go against Dark, no need to tell what happened after.

MVG isn't total garbage honestly. Everyone knows Sandstorm was awful but they do hold good events. The problem is for every well planned event there are ones that are absolutely not. The biggest room at the Shots Fired 2 venue can only hold like 100-200 people. The whole thing is a recipe for disaster but no one ever does research on these kind of logistics and we end up with awful poorly run tournaments.

Out of the Ganon mains, we have 3 that are most competent, Kage, Bizzaro, and Eikelmann
Kage is the best, with the greatest fundamentals, and now that he's working more on movement, he may have the best chance
Bizzaro was a fan favorite, but ever since his sponsorship by YP, he's seems to have fallen off the map

PROTIP: Tryhards and Casuals can't co-exist.
History has shown that they'll flame each other endlessly so they can't share the same game. This means the 90% of the fanbase that is casual will get a casual new smash while the minority of tryhards will always get ignored because you can't make two entirely different smash games at the same time but then again, you wouldn't want to appease both groups even if you could.
Nintendo knows it, Sakurai knows it and if there's a new smash director, he'll know it, too! Judging from the careful design of Brawl and sm4sh, I suspect there is an official hidden policy on discouraging the interest in these games from undesirables such as tourney players and that it is mandated that multiplayer games like smash will be designed to alienate those types of players from participating in the communities of these games as it is considered detrimental to the communities and the interests of Nintendo.

Maining Falco to start makes it kind of hard to get good at the neutral game.
His lasers are insanely good, but skilled players will have put the time in to practice dealing with them. This creates a situation where you just laser all day as a new player and destroy anyone who can't deal with lasers, but you don't know what to do against someone who can deal with them. I'd suggest starting with Marth or Shiek instead

I'm committed to Marth now, but what should I do to start? Should I go into versus mode and just practice SHFFLing and wave dashing? I can do SHFFLing pretty well and I can do a single wave dash but my fingers aren't fast enough to do 2 or more in a row.
Are there any other exercises I should work on before I go online and try to do friendlies with other people?

You should learn to get SHFFLing down really well because if you mess it up then you'll be left open to attack for a long while, especially if you miss the timing on the Dair. Make sure that you also practice SHFFLing while hitting a character or a shield because the timing is different and you'll have to L-cancel later than usual. Wavedashing is important but you won't usually have to do more than once at a time. It's most important for spacing you're attacks.
Practice dash dancing. Specifically, going back and forth different lengths. For instance dashing forward a little and then going back far. Marth can't go super aggro during neutral so spacing and picking the safer options are vital to his game. Here's a video series that covers some of his stuff.
