I wanted the MC to be an everyman, and I realized there was no way I could do it without him winding up as a self insert. So instead I covered it up by making additional main characters The Mexican actually turned out to be my favorite in the end anyway.

The only winning move is to ignore everybody and do what you like. That's a big reason I actually enjoy Undertale, because Toby made the game he wanted and said screw everyone else. Gotta respect that.
