Polypore staff was a thing introduced to Runescape in like 2012 to make it actually affordable to use reasonably good magic; it's not even relevant any more since you can just Air Surge for only 5 air runes (0 with Armadyl Battlestaff) and make it even cheaper. Before it, you had Slayer Dart (which was pretty fucking weak and required you to use Staff of Light, which was weaker than the Chaotic Staff), Storm of Armadyl (which literally no one could afford except for the richest 0.01% of players), Ice Barrage (which was stupidly expensive and not good dps compared to melee outside of PVP), and Fire Surge (which required a high level and was also reasonably poor/expensive, though at least good against Glacors/Ice Stykewyrms).
Anyway, DMM was the best idea Jagex ever had, but in general RS3 is a better game than OSRS because it actually gets quests from time to time and quicker grinding. Also, Dungeoneering is the best thing ever.

The only afkable mining is unlocked at lvl 94 and it only afks for 15 seconds not to mention it's a grandmaster quest reward
MMORPGs should either have periodic server resets, fucking awesome minigames and activities you can play standalone, or a development strategy that pumps out non-repeatable content like raids and RS-style quests at such an incredible pace that players will spend less than a week between new content. Allowing endgame to simply be grind like RS has done is unacceptable.

Community is entirely dedicated to the "No xp waste" attitude, though.
