I'm a disgusting newfag to the series. Back in 2013 I saw the trailer to Phantom Pain, not the "Moby Dick" one, the real one. It was so fucking cool and dramatic, it made me so hyped I immediately went to play all the MGS games. For two long years I looked forward to the day I'd finally get to see the final chapter of Metal Gear. I expected to laugh, cry and be blown away.
When I got Ground Zeroes while a was disappointing with the length, it made me very optimistic of what to come, even though I wish Sutherland said a bit more. When I finally got Phantom Pain I had fun for a while but was pretty disappointed with how goofy Skullface ended up being and how lackluster the story was. Big Boss didn't even do anything that evil.
I wasn't a fan of the gameplay either. The open world was empty and boring. Also riding around the helicopter got old real fast.

Even if Miller knew Venom wasn't the original Snake though MGSV, he knew that Venom was still highly skilled and that they could work together to get back what they had lost. Plus, along the way, seeing what Venom was doing by saving him(Miller) and others, he probably had mentally accepted him as the new Big Boss.

I've had a perfectly enjoyable, complete experience with the series before Peace Walker came out, and I can continue to do so. Why do you assume it's easy to cut content? It's not, except in shit games with a shitty lose story where nothing is connected.
Obviously when you cut something, not only that requires some work, but then you will always leave traces behind. Hints of cut content have always been found in vidya. You're right, but I don't assume it's easy. Obviously it's difficult to change from one bigger cohesive product and remove some large part of it without missing detail, or by having the lack of detail be jarring to the player. (Dark Souls comes to mind for that) But what is left behind is huge. It's honestly massive and I can't excuse it. Not for anybody and especially not for somebody who prides himself on his lifetime of film consumption and his own directing talents.

GZ was better in every aspect other than game length. The map was better, the story was better, the atmosphere was better. If TPP was like 10, even 5 GZs it would have been pretty good.

What did TPP do better other than variety? The mission areas were generally smaller and not as well thought out, not to mention easier. GZ had what seemed like 1/4th of the story in 1/20th of the game so it actually felt eventful. TPP just felt like a lifeless sandbox, which was fun to play with, but at the end of the day we wanted a MGS game. Getting in and out of the helicopter was annoying as fuck too.
