There are still a few bugs that could stand to be fixed, a few characters that are arguably not as good as they could be, and several new characters in development that many were pretty excited for, and one of the dev memebrs mentioned wanting to fill every extra skin slot with a costume of some sort. The game definitely still has lots of room to grow, even if it's still really fucking good as it is.

The engine is just shit like that.
Now I'm no programmer, but I believe it's mainly because projectiles are saved in character specific files and that means a reflected projectile would be the game trying to send back something it doesn't have.
People are clever and found workarounds though.
A few characters have moves that create a projectile hitbox to cancel out a projectile and trigger an attack that sends a projectile back.

Yes, it's one of the things that made me think that the dev team weren't going about things in the right way. Why keep the code for your not for profit mod secret when releasing it could benefit the entire community?
We could possibly have had better extra character/stage engines much faster if they had shared their knowledge. It also would have meant that people could have customised their project M experience better to make their menus look how they wanted, rearrange the character/stage select screen and even remove codes they didn't like. Because being designed to play like melee and actually playing like melee are not the same thing.
PMs issue is that a lot of it is overdesigned. Characters have this samey, dial-a-combo gameplay because they're played largely as designed. Melee on the other hand is played as developed organically, without a character being designed to be played at a high level, high level strategies evolved organically, with no thought or consideration by a designer. This gives characters a variety of execution barriers, whereas PM doesn't really have many, in fact, some tech is taken directly over and made more forgiving, like Lcancelling have extra frames. This might sound enticing to an upcoming player, but the more forgiving experience doesn't have the draw for good players and enthusiasts as the one with the higher execution barriers.
So I guess to make it short, melee is harder than PM and PM only superficially plays like melee, once you get deeper and see how people play to the fringes of melee, but they play to the intentional design of PM, and this creates a really different experience. I am not knocking anyone who enjoys or appreciates PM, but I think it's a mistake to call it an upgrade when they aren't the same. I would, however, call SD Remix a worthy successor to melee and I'd urge people to check that out if they wanted melee+.

Nothing's changing, PM has been against the wall basically the entire time it's existed and there's still tons of players who like to play the game, and that's all you need for a successful competitive game.
