He made the series revolve around Hope's Peak and now he's just rebooting because he's out of ideas while the series was basically left on a cliffhanger. This is in no way similar to Persona. Especially since Monokuma, who was created by the first antagonist is being carried over for no apparent reason besides marketing.

Not even slightly. I'm in it for the story and an anime can do that just fine, especially if it hopes to be different from the games previous to it. It's unlikely to be another killing game, and as such there's no real purpose in making it a game, it would probably be a straight-up VN, and in THAT case you're going to get a bigger audience and be able to do more visually striking stuff with an anime.

It's the combination of the story and the trials and the way they compliment each other that really made DR work for me. Can DR really be as interesting without the trials? Could they seriously not frame the conclusion of the saga in the form of a game? The whole thing rubs me the wrong way.
