I can't speak for the rest of /a/ but I thought TLA was great after its kinda shaky start. LOK is basically a judge-by-seasons approach. 1st season is ok but mostly a letdown after TLA. Season 2 is fucking dogshit, the worst the series ever got. Season 3 was the peak of the series for a lot of reasons, and Season 4 was kinda middling. High points are better than Season 1 and worse than Season 3, and the low points are worse than Season 1 but better than Season 2.

Draw inspiration from a variety of sources? Fine, and absolutely a healthy part of any artist's development of their own style. That's not what we're talking about though, we're talking about people who are just trying to copy the look with no self development and zero fundamentals (like anatomy). They see the result but they don't get the process behind it, and as a result their shit ends up being some variety of horrible, from just plain embarrassing elementary school level bad to occupying this weird, Uncanny Valley territory where it is clearly trying to be CLOSE to "manga look" but somehow is wrong.
Actual good artists choose to do all sorts of distortions and stylistic flourishes and emphasis and non-realism, but the point is that it's a CHOICE. They know at least some basic anatomy, lighting, etc., they've done the fundamentals, they do in fact have the capability to draw a classic portrait or landscape or whatever and have it come out decently, but they've gone from there. They've tried a variety of different looks. That isn't something that can be skipped straight to the end result.
It's the same as other media, even down to regular books. Good authors sometimes "break the rules" of English for some specific effect or style, but they know exactly what they're doing and why. Each time they do so is a choice with logic behind it. Some middleschool kid can't just copy that and get a good result without understanding what they're doing.

Well, there's a certain mindset where you watch horrible stuff with other folks and just shit on it and rather then cringing it just becomes funny. Some anime are like that on /a/, everyone knows they're horrible but they're the right kind of horrible to be funny instead.
