roleplay a hooker that escaped the gommorah and started life anew as a courier after some re-constructive surgery from the clinic near free-side.
Go for charisma, black widow, cherchez la femme, and high agi for that "flexibility". Base the run off of avoiding combat as much as possible. It's a surprising amount of fun.
The "retard strength" run, all melee and unarmed. Lowest intelligence possible, high strength, luck, and agility. Roll play as a tard that wandered off into the wastland to find ice cream and unwittingly save the day.
Playing with 10 charisma and letting my followers do the fighting, it's surprisingly doable. Also energy weapons is real fun and there are a ton of them early game if you know where to look.

Alright, I was going to post this on /fog/ but since it's full of F4 waifufags now I guess NV threads or /k/ is the best place.
I'm working on a simple realism mod right now because all I could find is pretty fucking subpar and lazy, shit like realistic headshots just upping the head damage multiplier to x10 and making power helmets useless agains .22 LR and so on.
So I'm going to change pretty much every armor/damage value in the game and a few setting to make things a bit more difficult, realistic and autism-friendly.
The changes right now are as follows:
HP formula changed to 1 base HP (I wanted it to be 0 but it just kills all the NPCs) +10*END, no HP from level ups.
Skill rating no longer affects the damage, just the accuracy.
Condition now affects the spread of the weapon the and chance of jaming every time you try to take a shot, not only on reloads.
Sneak attacks are just guaranteed crits now, not double crits.
If the DR of your armor is equal/higher to the damage taken, you take no damage at all instead of vanilla 20% (I'm going to balance it by making armor vreak much faster, but power armor is going to be pretty fucking durable to make it feel like a real tank)
Carry weight formula is now 0+10*STR to encourage smart looting (best weight/value ratio) and smart equipment choices (how much ammo, how much/what kind of weapons, what kind of armor etc)
I'm probably going to change more, I'm still browsing all the settings in GECK.
But my point is I wold like to see some suggestions on the damage values (I'm basing them on caliber rather than guns themselves, with slightly higher damage on rifles because longer barrel-more velocity) and general suggestions as well.
So it's as follows, assume your average Joe has 51 HP:

That canteen really gimps the hardcore mode. The infinite water supply trivializes scavenging for water.
An undertale inspired kill every faction edition run. Kills the kings, kill house, kill legion, kill bos, kill boomers, kill all the vaults, kill powder gangers, choose to annihilate the white legs. Have nukes hit both places at the end of lonesome road, kill Elijah, kill the think tank have Helios set to weapon mode.

My idea is to make power armor resistant to everything up to .308 to the torso, so only a crit .308 to the head or .50 headshot/crit to the torso will be able to one shot you, everything else will either do nothing or some laughtable damage with enough durability to take a few hundreds rounds before it starts to lose it's DR . Pretty much like it was in Fallout 1/2.
On the other hand I will try to make it slow you down considerably, too. You ain't running away from that Veteran Ranger with AMR.

It's sort of heavy in Fallout 1, but that's it. and by that I mean "85 pounds, also enhances str by 3" which kind of evens out a bit.
At worst in a modern game it would be like metal armor. So not necessarily the quietest, and you would be a bit slow, but not plodding.
So he'd still be more or less impossible to escape, on balance.

I wonder if the power armor models in NV are lorewise, supposed to protect you from shit like some guy roasting you with a flamer. Sure, you might not get burned directly, but wouldn't it get real fucking hot? My impression is that at the very least, the Brotherhood models don't look like they have the coolant means to protect themselves from being boiled like potatoes. It would of course not be immediate.

I will, every change I've listed is just a simple value change in GECK so no need for PN and I don't really like JSawyer.
The only problem I have is that stupid fucking system in which DT from armor and helmet is additive instead of protecting body/head separately.
So I will need to balance everything around wearing both. PN makes it a little better by making it so damage bypasses DT if head is unprotected, but it's still fucking stupid and probably hardcoded.
Make No-Bark Noonan. Anyone who threatens you immediately gets shanked in face, but run away from fights as often as possible. Do what No-Bard Noonan would do. This includes compulsively entering restricted areas/containers to uncover conspiracies and taking shifty, confrontational dialogue options when available.

So my first playthrough was a wisecracking cowboy (Speech/Guns/Repair).
For my second playthrough I think I'll do a heavyweight champion with 10 strength and boxing gloves. Probably gonna name him Rocky or Sugar Ray.

I thought about using something like bumper sword, but then I realized melee is apparently much better the faster you run than simply tanking bullets yeah? And yet anything that snipes benefits more from light armor cause of how stealth works and negating the entire point of heavy armor to begin with.

No DLC but thanks. A few things always bugged me about some of the big weapons though. I can understand Gatling Laser, but why does Minigun even have a backpack? It doesn't seem connected to the gun at all is it just for a visual ammo container? You never seem to reach around for it and there doesn't seem to be some vending machine slot for every cartridge of bullets so I don't get it.
Then there's how all sorts of weapons that just disappear when you holster. What the fuck is up with that?

I have some serious gripes about this game.
The only hostile enemies in the vanilla game that use energy weapons are Fiends.
The only hostile enemies in the vanilla game that use unarmed weapons are Freeside thugs. There are no enemies in the game that use Power Fists. Zap Gloves cannot be found in any containers.
The weakest bladed weapon in the game, the Switchblade, has a unique version of it Figaro which does even less damage than a Knife.
The unarmed weapon Recompense of the Fallen found in Cottonwood Cove HQ is actually a unique version of the weapon Dog Tag Fist. The Dog Tag Fist is a piece of shit weapon that can only be crafted after completing a quest to rescue an NCR soldier and kill more than a dozen Lakelurks and their king in a cave located far far away from any place on the Mojave. Climbing the summit to reach this cave is no easy task as there are plenty of Bark Scorpion Hunters and Giant Radscorpions around the area.

If you look into the GECK files, Legion members were supposed to use Hatchets and Bladed Gauntlets along with Machetes in their loot list but for some reason they only used Machetes.

Theres very few humanoids that use weapons that you fight that arent raiders and arent the fiends so theres that.
Gonna do another NV run, last time I sided with the NCR and I managed to get the BoS on their side, and I thought it was great how they worked out a deal where the BoS patrolled the highways and the NCR traded with them or something like that.
If I side with House, do I have to blow up the BoS, or can they chill together? If I want to keep my brotherhood bros do I have to go for independent Vegas?

in the intro, it shows a Raider being shot by an NCR Veteran Ranger and Legion members carrying laser pistols. There is even a quest in the game that deals with the Legion and a shipment of energy weapons.
and in the Collector's edition, there is an NCR holding a Laser Rifle as well.

All of this is because of tag skill restrictions for NPCs and maybe not making a variety of different NPCs that have different tag skills.
ALL of the NCR are tagged in Guns, Melee, and Explosives and they can't use anything else.
ALL of the Legion are tagged in Guns, Melee, and Unarmed and they can't use anything else.
There are no special classes for either of them to make them, let's say be good at all firearms Guns and Energy Weapons and melee. Or just have a brute force Legion who uses Throwing Spears and all fist and melee weapons.
I quit playing FNV a month ago, after playing it for about a week.

You are right, it would need plenty of designations. Like "Heavy Trooper" in salvaged power armor would have miniguns while "NCR Trroper (?)" would have energy weapons.
Also, dont the legion dislike the reliance upon technology? I thought only the elite units in the hitsquad used it because dispensation from caesar for assassination.
Regardless, the ability to get weapons in the game are pretty ass. I was using a hunting rifle at level 38 still because nothing else good was available since I was at peace with the factions without hit squads.
Game needed more end game events, like super mutants showing up or something. Lots of wildlife which is good, but it makes it hard to actually get bullets and shit to sell as you approach end game without murdering factions constantly or killing fiends over and over.

oh yeah forgot to mention the lack of hostile Super Mutants as well. Most of the time you can talk your way out of any fight with them.
I think in my entire playthrough I only fought like maybe one or two Supermutants: The one at Black Mountain that ambushes you by spawning behind a tree once you climb a certain distance up a road and the at Nipton with the Screams of Brahmin and that one wasn't initially hostile either.
The Legion do use technology but are trained not to rely on them. Low level energy weapons can be overlooked.
Also just because the Brotherhood of Steel takes all the technology doesn't mean everyone can't still find some. They're also in hiding so it should be open season for scavengers and shit.
I think the game needed an evil faction that isn't the Legion and a return of cinematic cutscenes. Just hearing the music change and seeing things with in-game graphics don't work sometimes because of bugs and things.

While they clearly did not have enough time to plan out the game and set it in motion like they wanted to, you can see premonitions of it happening. As you progress through the story the npcs shift to heavier units and people mention this fact that the ncr has brought in rangers/heavy troops. In the same way, So too should more shit have been going on with humanoid npcs rather than animals and stuff.
Most of the humanoids in the game you end up befriending for quests, theres very few real shoot outs that occur. Would have been nice if the raiding bands struck out further and took over more locations and teched up their own gear so you had to backpedal back around the map and take back locations (with the assistance of other factions too)
Like the raider gangs in the south edge of the map striking out and taking over the abandoned locations that just have bottlecaps, ghoul immigrant groups moving into certain areas causing disturbances, super mutants lodging in caves that didnt have an real significance before other than being where a rare weapon is stored. From all of these locations patrols would enter into the wasteland and do shit or squat. The courier would have to go around and have to deal with them primarily with violence (Couple of humorous instances could involve the courier trying and failing to defuse situations leading to gunfights)

Jackals don't have a leader and get bullied by literally anyone.
Vipers don't have a leader and get bullied by literally anyone.
Powder Gangers are fucking trapped in NCRCF by Caesar's Legion and trapped in Vault 19 because of Fire Geckos.
Scorpion gangs have leaders and had their quests cut so they're always hostile and only exist in one area. None of them respawn when killed.
Fiends are the only fleshed out raider faction but still had some cut content such as being able to talk to other notorious Fiends such as Cook-Cook and Violet.

Thing I hate about going super attack speed is how tiring it is to spam left click on your mouse. It's just tedious and asking for tunnel carpal syndrome if you go through long big fights.
That's probably one of the main reasons I prefer unarmed since that relies on vats more, or dislike fast firing semis. May as well just be automatic but shoot slower.

Just need people out in the Mojave using heavier damn equipment. In my latest save at level 40, I am thinking about selling off my gold bars just because I cant find any of the good equipment gatling lasers etc, out in the mojave and I dont have any other shit to sell because the only thing I am doing is running around killing cazadores and deathclaws.
The scorpion one is a sad affair, I think westside was planned out to be bigger and encompass the thorn entrance. So I am sure the scorpion quests would have to do with Westside. Same way that the Powder gangers have a lot of cut content, and are disjointed as fuck. I fought the law only having the two solutions, one pissing off the ncr and one where you exterminate them.
That shit should have been saved for end game quests only where you run around the map jockeying for support.

Currently doing a mercenary/PMC type character. Will side with House in the end but until then I help whoever pays me. He's a professional type though, so he won't ever steal or murder people he hasn't been hired to, or double-cross a client once he's already agreed to help.
Started out with leather armor, moved up to reinforced leather, then lightweight metal armor (using jsawyer, so I get that around Nipton), then combat armor, reinforced MK1, and then MK2 as the final outfit.
Weapon started with the varmint rifle. Upgraded to a service rifle with 9mm sidearm around the time I got to Primm. Will eventually be using All-American with A Light Shining In Darkness as my sidearm. I also keep frag grenades and satchel charges for tougher enemies. Once I do Lonesome Road I'll keep a flare gun on-hand for Deathclaws.
I'm also using Project Nevada and the new implants kind of add a super soldier vibe which is kind of neat.

When using melee, how do power attacks that aren't through vats work? Say a weapon uses back slash, it says it does 70% damage in VATS, the hell does that mean in real time? Actually why would you only want to do 70% damage versus 100% damage?
