They basically released an expansion that amounted to little more than another content patch, but this one was payed for. Then the devs took a long fucking break in which everyone was running the same two dungeons and single raid zone ad nauseum.

Kind of.
The end game raid is impossible to beat unless you spend every night practicing it for hours with the top players on the server.
Crafting was killed completely.
There was no relic weapon to keep people busy and they still haven't added it.
The tomestone grind has finally become stale. They only include 2 new expert dungeons per patch now making daily end game repetitive and boring.
Players who were ahead of the curve have had absolutely nothing to do since July aside from the impossible raid. The most recent patch added like 3hrs of content and a boss that's quite difficult but beatable.
No new housing still. Materia is useless and cheap and worthless. New exploration gives random gear with random stats better than end game raid drops. Plus it's extremely grindy and boring.
Old content is dead. Especially old raids. Servers have died down and nobody plays anymore. The game is a waste of time unless you're new to it.

I've honestly switched to FFXI.
I love FFXIV, but there just isn't enough incentive to play and the community is full of a mix of try hard elitists and people that have completely given up on progression. There's no middle group that wants to learn and attempt the harder content. You've either already done it or never will.
They need to add some incentive to rerun content with groups that aren't a sure deal. Maybe make it so the next relic gains points based on time in an instance instead of clears.

WoD has different issues.
One of them was their attempt to actually add some new things that backfired really hard.
They put a lot of development time into Garrisons and Ashran. But those turned out to be shit so the whole expansion fell flat.
I really do like some of the plots in the class/job quests. I know the lore isn't really that great, but I do find some of it interesting
So am playing as a marauder, and just started the main quest dungeons. My question is: Do i always have to tank? I can't seem to change my role in the dungeon, and i don't feel like i want to handle the headache of tanking end game dungeons. Am i fucked?

You can't change roles in the dungeon itself.
You CAN unlock and change to other classes when you hit level 15. Just stop on by one of the guilds in the three main cities.

Actually yes, they kinda are. Each gear piece can drop on two bosses, not all bosses. At first that sounds awesome. If someone rolled that piece you wanted you get another chance (something BRDs drop out on the first boss don't understand), but it comes with a price...
Because of the new system, the chance of a certain piece dropping is even lower. Not only that, one can drop twice on the very SAME boss you just fought and later again on another. So many NIN and DRG dupe drops...

Nobody wants to play each other outside of boosting, and the computer AIs are almost all cheap as fuck actual cheaters, so no wonder Triple Triad is dead.
Shame too, it was one of the things I was looking forward to when I first started playing, but even getting 30 unique cards is a fucking pain in the ass due to the retarded NPC decks being full of high rarity cards when the player is stuck with ONE until that 30 card limit is reached and no matter what the player can't have all rare cards like the CPU can.
Not to mention the 'random' rule is actually 'the AI is going to fuck you over completely by blocking your good cards from you while it uses the same deck it always does'.

Kinda lost hope in doing Thordan ex right now because even though it's only been out for like 3 weeks (?) people only want experienced people. Nobody's willing to help anybody, it's all just whoevers on top will stay on top. It's fine, I'd almost rather wait for everyone to be experienced so that I can be carried through my first time with ease. Plus the weapon isn't too much of an improvement from the eso weapons so nbd.
Currently decided to main NIN after wracking my brain with several other choices, mainly BRD or MCH. Also leveling AST and loving it. Otherwise, just working on Vundu quests and having fun doing it. Cloudtop is my favorite area so it's pretty nice.

No I actually love playing AST. I'm only at lvl 41, so granted I'm not with the big league healers yet, but I love their versatility. Light speed allows me to dps really fast, an instant cast 'oh shit' heal, a spell that changes depending on stance or party. I donno, seems fun. I also love working with the card buffs.
