The problem with Sawano is that a lot of his more grandiose tracks feel too similar after a while, including Unicorn. He has a signature style, but it's almost like the musical equivalent of sameface at times. That being said, I think his work in XCX is one of his better contributions to the world. It's no Unicorn, but Unicorn was really fucking top notch.
In fact, I bet Sawano composed the soundtrack to XCX purely because Takahashi, a fan of Gundam, heard his work in Unicorn and thought the dude would be a good fit.

You can have custom protagonists and also have them talk and contribute. You just have to be creative about it.
Make the protag blatantly a robot. The voice options are just slightly different modulations of the same voice data. Male and female is just different modulation and a different-looking body. Don't let the player name themselves, because that complicates things.
That's a terrible idea but you get the picture. The limiting factors are voice and name. Just let the player customize their looks and you're fine. If you want to include different voices, or gender, or whatever, that's fine, you just have to be more creative.

From what a lot of reviewers say Nintendo gives them the most time to review a game. It annoys me to no end that anything from this game was removed for a culture cleanse. I don't make sexy characters, and I don't use the character creator to gawk at giant titties or make a sex monster, I just like being able to transform the person as dramatically as possible. I have no reason to defend the offending features in question besides a feeling of normalized sexuality; I'm not afraid of sexuality or people being exposed to it, especially in an imaginary setting. I may not have even made a female character. I guess it's just the principle of the matter that is twisting me the wrong way, which is admittedly weak as fuck. That, and the fact that we'll never get a straight answer about why anything had a sudden change of fate without inferring myself that it's some kind of PC kick. I'm torn nonetheless.
This will absolutely be my last time buying non-import for Nintendo systems, especially if their stance on region-locks doesn't change. I'd rather eat the extra costs than be coiled into paying salaries for the motherfuckers at Nintendo's western localization and marketing teams. Release dates and getting untouched third party titles is just a bonus.
I'm not trying to be a reactionary, and I genuinely believe that these changes to Xenoblade aren't even issues, they're completely arbitrary and absolutely aesthetic (I can, however, also object under the context that the entire thing is an aesthetic experience, and removals that focus on that branch of the game are by association significant consequence, but I know that's all about perspective). But I have a staunch believe that what the developer decides to include in a game was intended for the audience to determine whether or not they're willing to utilize these features, even if the developers themselves believe that the Japanese audience will be the most/only audience receptive to it. I play them for that unique experience, not to be pandered to by out-of-touch localization teams.

However, when Yamagami-san was good enough to tell me to see it through to the end, we somehow managed to get the job done properly. In that sense, I’d say that this title differs from the other titles we’ve made at Monolith Soft, and I mean that in a good sense. But having said that, I think that it is still imbued with Monolith Soft’s distinctive character, and I’d really like players to see this for themselves.
We created this title with the intention that players should invest a lot of time in it, and become thoroughly absorbed in the game world. Even if you’ve completed the game a single time, there will still be plenty of things you won’t have been able to do yet, so I’d say you definitely need to set yourself the target of getting through it again. You are bound to discover new things that you didn’t notice the first time round, be it in the story, the battles or the quests. I think we’ve made a game that won’t betray the player’s expectations.”

You learn them permanently. Though, the bonuses from selecting a tree obviously don't carry over since you have to be on it to get it. Each skill tree has one of these at the very top.

So I got the game yesterday and played for about 3 hours.
The beginning is super overwhelming. The game barely explains anything, and you have a gorillion side quests, the main overworld to explore as well as the entire city, which is filled with NPCs who either talk about usless shit or give you useful tips the game didn't explain.
Pretty much everything but the skells, advanced classes and online features are unlocked already. Gonna need some time to understand everything.
