Steam sale: Cheap / Hidden gems

Thread replies: 416

46 games for €101

always one of the best bits of steam sales for me, had some great times with games i got for relativly little.

Can only speak from experience, undoubtably some i've missed. Also they could do with reorganised, not just one long list.
>>
>>317975665
They're cheap because they're indie trash.
>>
>>317975665

I admire the list, OP. lot of good games in here

Thanks.

The Darkness is actually a fucking huge dragon's shadow.
>>
>>317977143
you should play deadly premonition and shadowrun, they are the two best games out of the bunch in my opinion.
>>
>>317977291
did you post that by mistake?

No, i made this list in browser, because i thought it would be cleaner, than without the *in library* watermarks
>>
>>317977329
It's about 3-4 hours, and yes it does end on a cliff hanger. but the atmosphere and sense of mystery are both top drawer. Good game to fill an memorable evening for the price.
>>
>Defy Gravity - Very bad, looks like a flash game you can find in Newgrounds.
>The Bridge - Shit, same kind of game as Braid.
>Reus - Kinda bad, it's a god simulator, but it's pretty boring.
>Sword & Sworcery - Not much of a game.
>Her Story - Not much a game.
>Thomas was Alone - Shitty visuals and shitty gameplay, pretentious garbage.
>To The Moon - Not much of a game.
>Brothers - Brain dead "puzzles", short.
>Beyond Good and Evil - Port is terrible.
>Deadly Premonition - Port is terrible, you need mods to fix it.
>The Stanley Parable - Not much of a game, same kinda of humour as Thomas was Alone.
>Kairo - Absolute garbage, it's a walking simulator that it's even worse than Gone Home. The visuals are ugly and the music is terrible.
>>
>>317975665
Guacamelee is great.

I didn't like Deadly Premonition, but I was expecting something more like RE4 and I got goofy soap opera cutscenes and lots of driving.

Overlord's in the base-tier for the current Humble Bundle.

DreadOut
Penumbra: Black Plague

Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi (big ol' tip: use fists forever and ever)
BlackSoul: Extended Edition (so this suffered from some hideous loading problems on launch, which suitably mauled the score, and the only reason I'm putting it here is that they've APPARENTLY been fixed. Check before buying)

It's pure sandbox, and not much deeper than say minecraft in terms of non-building gameplay.
I don't know how much you want in terms of building but i feel it has good enough selection to play with and whatever you find lacking in the core game the workshop is more than enough to satisfy any reasonable demands.
It's not super deep in terms of how you build things but i think it has a nice balance between how you have do do things and how you want to do it.
If you want a stable non-buggy game you'll probably find yourself let down, it works but no one's gonna defend SE's buggyness, For what it's worth it gets weekly updates even if it's just bugfixing.
If you want a good builder i think you'll like it but each to ones taste, and i suggest you take a look at From the depths as well.

Really depends on what you want.
If you haven't played psychonauts I enjoyed that. That being said, I played it back in 2005 so I don't remember it too well.
I wouldnt buy mgs if you beat it already, seems like a waste.
TIS-100 is pretty fun, but really hit and miss for some people, I'd say same with valkyria chronicles.
I haven't played the other games long enough to have a strong opinion on them.

So the answer is psychonauts is the safe bet, Valkyria if you want a strategy game, TIS-100 if you want a programming game.

>>
>>317991392
Well I guess that means I don't have to sit around waiting to see if things drop further and can just go ahead and buy some. Wonder if that is due to refund policy since people would just refund and rebuy.

Heavily considering GTAV. I've not really been into a GTA since Vice City or even that type of game save more maybe Prototype 1 and Just Cause 2. This one looks like its back to batshit crazy 101 and the online has me interested, but the buy fake money for real money seems bad. Hell it seems like something you could cheat through anyway.

>>317991075
>>317991380
This. Just recently played Crysis. Its a fantastic looking game, but honestly its really fun. The suit basically gives you like 10 seconds worth of a super power of choice at the cost of defense so it still has tension. Also its a bit linear, but you at least get a choice of how you go about things, it may suggest stealth but you can still run in with a rocket launcher and win if you want to or the other way around too. Found the stealth pretty fun though.

I would check some of the Id bundles though, you tend to save a lot with them if you may end up buying some of their other games. Don't play old Dooms in Steam though, just use the files with a source port and mods.

I don't know about god-tier.

The mission structure is interesting enough but the mechanics are too slow and the enemy variety too boring/nonexistent. Worth it for a fucking dollar though.

Yes, I mean for fucks sake, look at the other people that replied to you. One of them is genuinely recommending to you on it's (albeit fairly meager) merits, the other doesn't even know how to respond to posts.

Iwata died this year anon. Go play earthbound FOR FREE he practically built the game engine with his bare hands.

Cheers for actually taking the time to look through it. Squad-based turn-based games are usually my jam which is why I was interested in Chroma Squad, but I'll consider dropping those. Agarest and FFF I just thought I might like.

I'm not sure how clever it is to buy stuff I enjoyed first playthrough but haven't played in years like Homeworld or Jet Set Radio but I guess I'll find out. My taste is kind of all over the place but fave games are probably Vagrant Story, FFT, BG2 and Liberal Crime Squad.
>>
>>317993497
Jedi Academy
Jedi Outcast
Battlefront 1 and 2
KOTOR
Republic Commando
Dark Forces

They're all fantastic, all of them, though you may want to gloss over Battlefront because those are multiplayer games at heart.

And man don't get me started on the movies. A mix of bullshit wishy-washy cliches, romantic subplots, slow pacing and tacky design.

But then I enjoyed the DOOM movie and Wanted, so my opinions on film aren't exactly worth shit. Still, the games are great.

Says the guy who proabaly bought the pip boy edition of fallout 4. OP probaly has a year or two's supply of good vidya. €100 would normally get you two new releases, which would only entertain you for a month, and wouldnt give you the depth or variety of experience

>>
>>317994804
Outland I really did not find fun with a friend - you don't even get to play the base game with a friend, just a series of arenas. Which are all 90 seconds long and the base game is so fucking boring as-is.

As for hidden co-op gems - on PC? I only know stuff you won't think have a multiplayer mode, like System Shock 2, Deus Ex, or Brutal Legend, but totally do.

Yeah I got nothing. RE6 still remains the best co-op game I've ever played, though, and playing Dead Space 3 on co-op actually makes the game fun, if only because you slaughter everything and watching Carver put a pin in Clarke's bullshit is entertaining in itself.
>>
GTAV or just play Just Cause 2?

Not bought a relatively new game in a long time. Thought it might be fun to play with friends. Probably just buy an SSD otherwise.
>>
>>317992976

Undertale is fun, dont let the falseflaggers discourage you. STILL IS NOT THE BEST GAME EVER MADE, its just a fine solid 7/10. I would say buy Transistor and download Undertale somewhere else.
>>
>>317995337
Didn't find either particularly fun. Just Cause 2 is the epitome of Ubisoft open-world checklist bullshit, but at least the grappling/parachute combo is more fun than their braindead parkour.

Play it with a gamepad or bust, the keyboard controls are jank.

>>
>>317975665
Thanks for the list, OP. Going through it to see what I can snag.
I got Wolfenstein Old Blood off Bundle Stars for like 6 bucks, cheaper than the current sale on steam. Too bad the sale's over though.

Coicidentally, Origin also has a sale going on now. If you're inclined to get Cisquisition or BF4 with all DLC for relatively cheap prices you might want to check it out.

>>
>>317978318
I don't mind the janky shit. It has its own charm, like playing those early 360 games.
What I DO mind is that YOU CANT SKIP DIALOGUE.
I usually read the subs, dont care too much about voice acting (although the VA in this game is pretty decent), and being forced to listen to ALL THE DIALOGUE is driving me up the wall.

>deeper meaning

There's no deeper meaning. Waifu just means a 2D character that you fall in love with. It's not just cute girls that you like, as misinterpreted by normalfags. It's silly when people do stuff like "Top 10 waifus".
>>
>>317989447
Buy the Hexcells bundle. You won't be disappointed. It's seriously the best puzzle game I've ever played (of the "very simple" variety, I mean). The difficulty curve goes across all 3 games, and the 3rd one has plenty of custom levels, but you have to go to the Hexcells Reddit to find the levels.

To have maximum fun, never make a move you're not 100% sure about. You can do every single puzzle without guessing. When I made a mistake I would just start the whole thing over again.
>>
>>318001752
Are you implying people don't fall in love with the 2d characters in VC?

>>318001927
I didn't. I don't feel like arguing about this subject here and shit up the thread. It just bothered me and I had to point it out, that's all.
>>
>>318000804
Ryse has even more QTEs than God of war. It's fucking ridiculous and it never ends. It doesn't help the game has only like less than 5 enemy varieties. It gets incredibly boring after a while.

How come you "people" have such **** tastes? Why don't you play actual good games instead?
>>
>>317990553

The Swapper is a puzzle game with a pretty good story. You play as an astronaut with a gun that can create and destroy clones of yourself and you can literally move your soul between them at will. Kinda plays with the whole morality aspect of that as the story progresses.

To The Moon is more of an interactive story than a game. You play as scientists reconstructing a dying man's memories to fulfill his final wish: to go to the moon. At least in his head. As you change his memories around you realize that there's going to be sacrifices if he ever wants to get to the moon. Pretty emotional, wish there was more interactivity.
