Asking again, what kind of combat would you want a new WoD game to have? Or even RPGs in general? Combat is always one of the things people complain about in RPGs but I don't know how they could make it better. I think the shooting in Bloodlines is fine but the melee combat, while I don't think it's too bad, could probably be better somehow.
KOTOR-like combat might work but that would make the shooting staying like it is stick out. That and I want something more real time than clicking on an enemy and then watching while using the occasional ability.

Anyone been playing the game with the most recent Wesp plus patch? Because I got to the Grout mansion and I'm stuck. I finished all that needed doing in the mansion itself and then I entered Grout's room, but the scene with Bach does not trigger and I can't leave the room, since both doors are locked. I can't interact with anything in the room and I've already tried interacting with all parts of the bed since some answers to this query suggested doing that but nothing still happens. How the fuck do I get past this?

Yes. In fact, there's a vampire philosophy/way of life (Vampires call these Paths) centered around it called Golconda. It's a way to excape the curse, but it's a rare few that walk the path, and actually reaching the end goal is almost impossible.

Actually, I just realized I was being misleading. Golconda doesn't require Hum10(but high Hum in general, don't remember the cutoff point). But yes, it's possible to reach Humanity 10, and some Vampires actively seek it. But you're basically fighting against your nature.

The hammer was too slow and I never got the bushhook. The katana outclassed the axe but I really didn't think that a katana fit a gangrel, so I just kept using the axe anyway. Or just frenzied my way through.

Yeah, she's got the most HP of anything in the game iirc. I mostly went through with SPAS-15 and berserk. Had no bloodpacks by the time I fought her - just one full charge on that thing you get from the cannibal vampire. Was pretty hard.
Everything worked out fine in the with the glitch in the Grout mansion, I just reloaded to when I arrived in front of the mansion and when I got to his room I could interact this time with the skeleton on Grout's bed.

I tried it a couple of times, but the farthest I got was to China Town. I either get bored of the combat and all the walking or I realize that I could have done something slightly better for my character and I just start a new game.And I'm probably playing it wrong anyway, I'm always a Gangrel who kills everyone and puts almost everything into combat and skills like hacking or investigating, so I never get all of those cool additional dialogues.
Should I go for a Gangrel, Ventrue or Nosferatu playthrough? I did a Gangrel and Nosferatu playthrough, but those were quite fun...It's has been a long time since I played, and I installed the latest Wesp patch, if that can be of any help...

I still like the idea of a Vampire game starting in like the dark ages and then time skipping forward. Redemption is kind of a shitty game but the premise is good.
It was a lot easier to be a Vampire before we had modern technology, back when people couldn't read or write, there weren't camera phones, the internet or DNA pathology, you could suck people dry and leave their corpses out in the open. Then you jump forward to modern day when you have to be very cautious about where and when you use your Vampiric powers.
It's also a fun change of pace going from swords and bows to lead pipes and shotguns.
It's also the type of story you can only tell with an immortal like a Vampire, you can have a story that takes place over the centuries.

I actually like this idea now that someone explained it. As long as the differences you mentioned actually matter in the game it could be cool. This post just reminded me that I was going to ask something.
So when I initially played the game I didn't realize that quite a few of the characters are from the pnp background story stuff and not made specifically for the game. So since Paradox owns all the WoD stuff, I imagine that they're allowed to use whatever characters that were in Bloodlines that were from the background. Are they not allowed to use their designs in the game though? With people like Beckett I'm not sure how close the game was following how he's portrayed in the pnp game.
Another thing is that the game is considered canon apparently, so maybe there's a loophole somewhere there that might allow an actual sequel to Bloodlines despite Activision still owning it since it's canon to the background stuff that Paradox now owns.
And which characters from the game are from the pnp game? I'm pretty sure that Beckett and Jack are, but Lacroix is not. How many other characters are?

While I don't believe games are getting irredeemably more prohibitively expensive to make, budgets do grow for games and I'm sure Bloodlines was more expensive to make than Redemption so you do have to sacrifice some stuff for that if you don't have an unlimited budget.
For instance if they were to make an isometric game rather than one that plays like Bloodlines it would be much easier and cheaper to have various time periods than if you want to do it like Bloodlines. I'm just hoping that Paradox aren't stingy with the budget, or God forbid we get a Kickstarter. They're known for shitloads of DLC so they should have a decent amount to spend.
