This is flat out false. First off, consoles provide a gauge to pc makers for how much a person is willing to spend on this hobby:

I have a comfy couch but I dont use it to play. I have however a very comfy chair that I enjoy sitting on while friends can hang on my super comfy couch. Also I do have a wired controller (dont like wireless. not reliable and requires batteries and I dont like hardware that just suddenly stops working) I do have a home theater 5.1 surround system for my computer, as well as a headset when its just me with my friends talking. otherwise its just the surround. Ps4 and xbone are abominations, they're wannabe PCs that are mac tier jewish. The monthly fees raise the price well beyond that of a better PC while also keeping the industry back and ensuring that you won't get to play a better version of a game once you've upgraded hardware. PCs come in many form factors and can do anything a console can do.
It is an objective fact that these consoles are superior and not needed anymore. Nintendo and tablets can have the kids who can't afford a PC and games that require hefty power can move onto PC where it can be free of the shackles consoles put on it. There is also no objectively good (for the consumer) reason to keep consumers split between wannabe PC consoles and PC. The consoles are barely cheaper but its like saving 100$ at the cost of ruining the experience for everyone and yourself. Consoles do more harm than good. Many problems PC face can be solved by consoles dying. Lack of coop? consoles being gone would heavily influence developers to develope more couch coop for PC. The list goes on. The massive damage consoles do to gaming as a whole is far too severe for the little amount of money it saves you.
TL:DR consoles don't need to exist and console fags can't come to terms with how incredibly bad of a purchase they've made. They'll continue to pay mid tier PC price for below entry level power for a very long time.

PC games in general are needed because it's an open platform where new creators can emerge. However, the amount of profits they can get is tenfold on consoles (depending on the game of course).
The problem/argument that everyone bitches about but no one knows about, is that a game made for consoles and ported to PC is usually not well optimized for the hundreds of different hardware people have. With consoles you have to code for a specific hardware and it will guarantee that everyone will have the same experience. It's not the case with PC. Not to mention the majority of PC gamers don't have good hardware to begin with.
The whole point of consoles was created for those who wanted gaming experience in their living room without having to setup a PC. Why is this a bad thing?
Also, consoles aren't the ones holding back PCs, developers are. They are the ones that either dictate how a game is going to be graphically wise or FPS wise. If they are in the low graphical fidelity side is because they geared towards console gaming first, which is going to make them profits.
Second problem is control, while it is now easier to plug and play controllers, back then a console port meant having to deal with subpar controls, developers didn't even take the time to optimized their controls for mouse and keyboard.
