GS: "A portion of the Western audience that appreciates Japanese games become very upset when any content in a game is altered during the localization process, regardless of how big or small the detail may be. When adapting a game for Western markets, does that affect how you go about designing some elements? Or do you ever feel like you have to strip away things that are central to the game's identity or purpose, just to make it a viable product outside of Japan?"

This meme really needs to die. The gravure dungeon was changed because of the overtones of it (A girl doing her best to impress a stalker by stripping down) there are still plenty of boobs in the game, it was really just that one costume.
For example, this dress here is actually usable in combat and it really emphasizes Tsubasa's tits. She also has this outfit with booty shorts. The game's fine, despite what you may have been told.

What it DOES do is allow a form of translators notes where if there's something that you don't understand you can click the word/phrase and it explains the context.
Not sure how you can do this in a JRPG, but I'd like that option.

It's hard to care about the censorship since you can easily get it uncensored with a fan-made patch.
It would have been nice if the patch was official so people could pay for it rather than steal it but it still works out well for us.
And while that interview states that it is not their intention to create bland and homogeneous games, that is inevitably the long term result of Nintendo's strict control over spicy content in their games.

This whole thread has made me very appreciative to be under Nintendo of Europe's juristicion. Yeah we still get crappy censored games that have been shipped straight over from NoA but sometimes get games here that NoA have refused to release due to content. The biggest one that comes to mind is Fatal Frame 2/Project Zero 2 Wii Edition which we got here but NoA refused to release because it was 'too scary'. Likewise Europe got Fatal Frame 5 in a pysical collectors edition whereas it was digital only in the states.
Europe also gets Rhythm Heaven Megamix on cart whereas digital only for the US.
But in return US get Story of Seasons ToT whereas we will not. Though this is Marvelous UK's fault and not Nintendo's.
But my point being is that if NoA refused outright to release TMS#FE then it would almost definitely have been released in Europe uncensored.
