Contrary to your autistic analysis of the situation, this doesn't mean an end to yuri pandering. In my case, I basically never self-insert into characters (empathizing != that character is literally an avatar for me!). For me, the appeal of yuri is visual representations of sex without having another man present killing my immersion. Not to mention, there's two women instead one. I'd imagine that much of the target audience is the same.
