- these who like cute girld doing things together type with yuri being subtext/side/comedy approach
- these who like yuri as overall positive romance between two females
- these who want to get story set in different setting where yuri would still be a trait of MC but it would be the type of a story+yuri variety like Murcielago
- and finally do something for drama fans who aren't comfortable with happy romance genre and need tragedy/drama situations in their yuri to make it 'realistic soap' type of story
There should be space for everyone, variety is a key which should work if the widest yuri readership would be covered.

It's always either too subtext or too ecchi. Publishers and artists struggle with how to define yuri and what the readers want. Hell, readers don't even know what they want. So you get publishers and artists experimenting with different things, throwing wet noodles at the wall and hoping something sticks.
Other magazines that don't focus on yuri can put out a pretty standard story which somehow become hits and OKS can get away with putting out nothing but lewds. But because of its name, Yuri Hime gets held to a higher standard for some reason.

Yeah, I like its storytelling more than the other highly celebrated current manga, like Bloom Into You or its ilk. Its more concerned with the moment-to-moment emotions of its characters and the tone and passion of a scene, rather than laying out a bunch of wordy ruminations about the overall situation. Well, they're all very common tropes. I was mostly thinking of Kannazuki no Miko and Oniisama e. It doesn't mean Kase-san isn't a good series, of course. Yamada and Kase's relationship is handled well, the art is good and the series has a pleasantly light tone. It's just remarkably stupid to imply it isn't chock full of conventions.
