Now, Blizzard could have made a more even split between Overwatch agents and villains, or specifically Talon vs. Overwatch, so that each team had to pick from one or the other, but they didn't do that. I suspect probably because a lot more people enjoy playing heroes than villains or terrorists, but I could be wrong on that.

Because Blizzard decided to make a really cool world with interesting characters and lots of complex(ish) interpersonal relationships, confined all of that to comics and movies, and then told their gamplay developers to make a fanfiction tool for the fans. Because that's all the actual game is, a way for fans to make up their own narrative that has less than nothing to do with the world or story. It pretty much is but some parts believe it has more basis. Hanzo's removal is debatable but it would affect the villain side of the two groups since Talon wants to use him to rebuild the Shimada clan in their designs. Him dieing in any capacity would probably give Talon free reign on their resources since Genji's considered dead tot he remnants and he probably doesn't want anything to do with the clan.

I fully believe that it is largely due to her personality more than her age. In comparison to Tracer she comes across as even more childish with her personality and bio. It might be something as shallow as her being not mature instead of her being above the age of consent. It's still pretty silly, it'd just have to be handled differently, though at least Mercy doesn't really look like she's nearly 40 so that would work in their favor.
You also gotta remember that even if she's legal an obvious age gap between partners could still be looked down upon by society. At least Mercy isn't in her fifties.

Eh, I like the pairing, but not in a romantic sense. Mercy as a mother figure to an energetic D.va (probably because Mercy has learned, through Tracer, how to deal with exuberant youngsters) is super cute. Having her double as the team's psychologist would also work. I would imagine that D.va might do well against omnics and in fights initially because of how good she is as a gamer, but there's a difference between the sights, sounds, and feelings of stylized battle and the smell that comes of death and destruction that no video game can recreate.

The biggest, well, obstacle currently isn't so much the divide or negativity it's just that WT has dominated pretty much every facet and only now are the other possible pairings finding their footing since the open beta and the release of the game. It is, though most of the people involved are just saying Mercy/Genji and nothing else.
