With all due respect to stay-at-home parents, and that this all stemmed from an obvious (if not funny) joke in the first place; simply saying "so-and-so characters end up being stay at home parents" has several unpleasant connotations:
(1) that it is somehow a bad thing,
(2) that after all the unique traits that they have, and the things they have done, for example, as set out in >>1959077, all they are good for is being somebody's waifu (which in turn has its own implications),
(3) that you couldn't be arsed to put in the thought you did to consider the other members' possible future careers to them as well, smacking of laziness and/or lack of understanding,

I've seen this lauded a lot, and I can't say I like it. Given the choice between hinting at several pairings and cementing certain ones, I'd pick the latter any day.
I'm glad the fan artists seemed to have settled on certain pairings overall. Not that I'm against 'crack' or anything, I just prefer it when the original work leaves no doubt as to who gets together with who and artists choose to do their own thing if they want to.

While "innocent" is not necessarily the word that comes to mind for Nico; in the SIDs and SIF especially, Nico's obliviousness to affection is quite blatant, presumably because she is so unused to it outside a familiar context. Hanayo is very innocent, I agree, her character arcs are about personal growth that can hardly be taken in any way to mean "yandere".
Nozomi strikes me more as calculating and knowledgeable about social behavior than "dominating", however. A dominating person wouldn't be content with taking a watcher's role like she has.

But of course we knew that.If anything, Eli's various fits of jealousy over Nozomi are the closest we'll get to yandere in canon. It doesn't seem like a trope Kimino and the other writers care for or enjoy much. That said, Maki's face on the Sakkaku Crossroads cover was compared to one doujin where she more or less manipulated Nico into falling for her, with remarkable likeness. BiBi is a dangerous unit.

I will admit I more inclined to have Umi in a relationship with Honoka despite my preference for KotoHono.
I love the ship but Kotori agrees with almost everything Honoka because she doesn't want to hurt her. It's noble but if we take it to it's logical conclusion, there's no break on any of Honoka's rush in moments no matter how badly thought out.
Umi provides a nice alternative, she criticises Honoka for what she does wrong out of love.

The movie did well expanding on what season 2 touched on, when Honoka discussed what decision to make with Tsubasa, which also parallels Tsubasa seeking out Honoka after A-RISE were eliminated in the preliminaries.
Dismissing the ship as merely "pairing the spares" disregards how they are good to and for each other.

This is nothing but grasping at straws. Honoka never identifies anyone in A-Rise as her inspiration, she talked about the entire unit. She saw them as that and never really refers at anyone of them directly. It's always "A-Rise."

Anemone Heart is strange that it could be taken to be about their feelings for Honoka just as much as it could for them meaning the lyrics at each other.
I don't have footage on hand, but during the recent online broadcast of the 4th Live, some viewers noted that Ucchi and Mimorin were wearing red and orange flowers. Red flowers are for love, and we all know whose color orange is. Compare also the choreography where they barely exchanged passing glances, unlike, say, Garasu no Hanazono which is blatantly NozoEli.
I prefer KotoUmi over either pairing with Honoka, but we mustn't put her out of the picture for no reason, which apparently is still an issue which comes up whenever we start talking about second-year ships.

The first two chapters of the NozoEli SID are the most shippy, which is why they tend to get more attention. The second half of the book is more about the members celebrating Christmas with each other, hence the title.
Eli really does get jealous over Nozomi a lot. Her SID goes into their past before she became student council president, a position which essentially was forced on her because no one else would do it (the same phenomenon would occur when she was considering findng a successor), and Nozomi volunteered to be her vice-president when she saw how Eli was so stressed out over the whole thing. Therefore when Nozomi showed interest in stuff outside the student council, like hearing out Kotori talk about the second-years' school idol plans; or attending at a college to sit in for lessons she was interested in during the events of her own SID; and the like, Eli turns very clingy, as though Nozomi is abandoning her. Their brief falling-out in the Christmas SID can be attributed to this as well, since Nozomi chose to seek help from Umi and Maki instead of her like she used to, Eli keeps goading her and basically threw a tantrum and made sad puppy eyes at her until Nozomi decided to put her idea of becoming more independent from Eli on hold.

Sakkaku CROSSROADS will, from the sound of it, be Maki-centered and with rotating secondary centers between Eli and Nico. There's a storyline here to be found in the "I used to think I understood you better than anybody else", "I lost my love", "rather than words, touch conveys more" and so on. Link it to the jacket art and Magnetic Today and the angst-ridden NicoMaki is all there.

Its the opposite actually. Umi is shy and awkward (to the point that the idea the she has devoted fangirls freak her out) and can't act on anything out of her comfort zone. It's Honoka who gives Umi the motivational push. To complement that Umi, as the most sensible one, is what grounds Honoka and Kotori on their more enthusiastic actions. Because they are very close, they do listen to her. Kotori is basically the emotional support, always trusting on whatever they want to do. All three complement each other perfectly.

Riko's typical off-day schedule (and you can find this all on the LL Wikia) involves meeting someone named Yocchan at 12pm. I long suspected that Yocchan was in fact, Yoshiko.
Yocchan was confirmed to be Yoshiko in an article on Riko's subunit from January's Dengeki G's. Riko as we already know is in a Western Gothic subunit with Yoshiko and Mari.
On another note, this had led to a fanon interpretation on /a/vg/ that Riko is a whore playing with Chika and Yoshiko's hearts for fun.

I don't personally care for LL too much, watched the two seasons and that's it. I don't think the /u/ alone makes it worth it, NozoEli and NicoMaki have a few really shippable moments but that's pretty much it. It's likely to not get what the big deal is about the ships, if you watch the anime solely.
The cast is very engaging, however, and their close bonds are evident. The anime only came in the third year when they had become a group.
Watch the anime first, then take a look at the 9-member specials, the After School specials, Fight Club, etc. See them casually touching each other, and making jokes about their characters' songs and lines, and talking about their own ships.
The IRL μ's are a grand story on their own, and it hasn't come to an end yet.

Firstly, don't expect much NicoMaki until the last 4 episodes. For whatever reason, storyboarding shafted that aside in favor of Maki with the First years or Maki with Honoka. To say the least, it was disappointing for pre-anime NicoMaki fans and confusing for everyone else.
As for NozoEli, their relationship is more established since they work together on the Student Council. Eli is also Nozomi's first friend at Otonakizaka. I don't remember much of S1 (NozoEli wise) but in S2, they start going out for parfaits and they share a hug in that episode they write Snow Halation on screen.
