The setting with Nohr and Hoshido factions was probably designed with the western and japanese audience in mind, so I wouldn't expect much to change, assuming it's not meant to be family friendly like pokemon. The only thing I would expect to be on the chopping block are amie moans. Heck, they might leave some lines unvoiced but still lewd in writing, just a bit toned down. They would definitely fix that one support after that meltdown.
I have a feeling the yuri content will be turned way up in the western release, maybe from some translator miffed at a single homo option.

Because of Radiant Dawn's terrible, terrible support system, Heather only gets two real pieces of characterization:
First, she joins up with the good guys because Nephenee is just too pretty not to help out.
Second, she stays with the good guys because they're serving Princess Elincia and Heather is not about to pass up the chance to get close to a woman that gorgeous.
If this is somehow downplayed from what the Japanese version showed... well, I'm not sure that's possible.

As for the seriousness of the games, I dunno, Ocarina of Time had a lot of silly moments in it (or at least it seemed like it did), and Super Mario RPG had a fair amount of darker moments, like Rose Town and Seaside Town (before they get their problems fixed), the Sea (and the Sunken Ship, those two were actually kinda spooky), and pretty much everything from the end of Bowser's Keep onward was really serious, and in some ways creepy. The Forest Maze wasn't quite dark or truly 'serious', per se, but not a lot of it was all hunky-dory and cheerful, it felt like you were adventuring through a forest and trying not to get stung to death by bees.

Yeah, I've been working with Venusaur to make yuri supports for awakening. All of the Robin S Supports are basically copy-pasted from the Male Robin's S Supports, but the other ones are new.
Thus far I've made S Supports for: Sully x Miriel, Tharja x Nah, Maribelle x Lissa, & Panne x Olivia. (Sumia x Cordelia was Venusaurs very own). I've also done some Male Morgan x Childer sibling conversations (which isn't normally possible unless with Lucina).
The mod is still far from finished. As of right now I'm working on making S supports for the "cannon" ships. (Or girls that already have non-romantic support with each other) After that we've already figured out how to add extra supports and there are some bugs we need to fix.
While it's not finished, if anyone's interested in the files and how to install them, I could probably give you a quick tutorial + link to the files.

As of now there are no reliable 3DS emulators, so hacking is a must. Nevertheless, you only have to set up homebrew (Which is 100% much easier now that we can hack the newest version of the New 3DS XL and all previous iterations) and a copy of Fire Emblem Awakening. Seriously, modding for the 3DS has never been easier.
