I like TYO's Yuru Yuri more than the first two seasons.
Pretty pleased with this season. VD, Hidan no aria aa, Yuri yuri, Gochiusa and 1-2 others (my taste). That I'm happily rolling around in yuri. But darn, it will be awhile before such a long stroke of good fortune strike again.

It is worth reading, but it wouldn't hurt to skip chapters, like when Kurogane accidentally sent his editor a chapter of a random hentai plotseriously Ken what were you thinkingand the contrived ending with an indeterminate time skipKen retconned the separation from an awful 10 years to something more like 3-5, which is still unforgivable. I'd say stop reading at whatever point you feel happiest before chapter 16, everything after that only took away from the series in my opinion.

How is voluntarily choosing to cut all communication with each other for years not needless? The family drama might have caused bumps in the road for them, but it definitely wasn't something that required a separation of such proportions. Then she reconciles with her mother who has no lines and she leaves saying she'll never come back. It was overly dramatic and pointless.
I say this as someone who owns the books and enjoys the first half of the story: the last few chapters were absolute garbage. They are rushed, poorly drawn, and the story deviates into a completely different tone that bored me to tears. Minato even proposes to a guy in hopes of adopting Otome. It was like Ken knew the story had to end and vomited up every bad idea he had to finish it with a bang.

Wasn't Otome's cellphone taken away by her parents or something? I was under the impression that, since her parents remarried, she was just taken far away and isolated to the point that, even if she were to sneak back, Otome's family would've eventually made everything worse.
And she doesn't really reconcile with her mother; she was a pain in her childhood life and as such Otome just decided the best course of action was to close the relationship. It's just as dramatic as it needs to be (Otome says it herself). I fail to see how it was pointless, as she needed closure there.
It's true that the ending was rushed, lacked explanations and left other plot points open, but it was far from absolute garbage. Especially so when considering that, in the great scope of things, student teacher romances never really get explored in yuri works and mostly limit themselves to oneshots.
My biggest gripe now is that Ken's other works aren't getting translated.

Minato actually refuses a phone call in the last chapter, though the reasons behind that no longer makes sense after their no-contact length was changed in the special chapter. That shows Otome has her phone, at the very least, but even so how hard would it be to write letters or set up the occasional rendezvous? The special chapter has Otome drive to Minato's house on her scooter, so it isn't like they're on opposite ends of the continent. Even in the special chapter Minato is surprised to find out Otome has a license and other details of her life, implying that they had no contact from 3rd year middle school until she was 20. The afterword explains the timeline

Personallynobody cares, I'd only consider genderswap yuri acceptable if
- there is no possible way of swapping back ever,
- genderswapped character actually wanted to become a girl and had no intent or attempts of het romance before being transformed,
- this character never tells anyone about their original gender.
As a special case, something like Inugami from Gugure should be more or less fine too.

I think deliberating on who considers what yuri is pointless, there's no way to settle it. Instead I'm just going to say there are some things I don't want to see in yuri anime, and gender bender is one of them. I can't think of any plot where I would be OK with it.
Actually, maybe I can. Consider a story where the heroine is into girls but is depressed because she can't get a girlfriend and out of desperation wishes she was born a guy instead. Cue magical intervention of some sort giving her the power to temporarily turn into a guy under some conditions. Then that results in a bunch of comedy hijinks where she tries to woo girls while hiding her secret. And it ends with her finding a girl who accepts her as she is, no gender bending required, of course.

I think it's just the worst selling show of Shaft. It's not actually that bad. Weird, but that's simply Shaft for you. Suddenly some really weird shit happens and you gotta accept that. I don't think that the core of the show is bad, I'd argue it's actually quite well done. Just.. the way it was presented made it feel so WEIRD.
Well, some Shaft shows you simply won't like. (I personally didn't like Pani Poni Dash or Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase at all, of what I watched by Shaft) So you can only try it out. Do note that the show changes. A LOT. So in a way Mekakucity Actors isn't such a bad comparison. (that show wasn't bad in the beginning, in my opinion, but what it tried to do in the end was just.. no)
