I kind of regret having the Arland Trilogy as my first experience for the series

TotorixMimi set the /u/ bar so high no of the other games could match it.

That's true. Gust has still yet to make another pairing as good as Totori and Mimi and I'm very picky over the kind of yuri I like. They're seriously one of my favorite pairings in general and it's a shame there's not more doujins of them. This is the only thing we really have. http://exhentai.org/g/622736/ee0cede1de/

Overall I felt Totori and Meruru were the best Arland games and Shallie was the best Dusk game. I think the two Shallies are cute together.

How is Shallie yuri wise?
>>
>>1866258
I consider it yuri-friendly. The four girls I cared about were the Shallies, Wilbell, and Miruca and they never had subtext with any guys. Shallotte can easily be paired with Shallistera or the other two I mentioned above. Overall you'll need goggles but it's one of the few good console JRPGs that could be recommended for yuri fans. You've got a great battle and alchemy system, art by Hidari, excellent 3D anime models, a mostly female cast, and another amazing OST as well. At one point the Shallies have a small fight but after they make up they call each other "Stera" and "Lotte" nonstop for the rest of the game and generally seem like very close "friends". Don't go expecting too much in this entry because it's definitely not as gay as Meruru but I still think it's the gayest Dusk game at least. There's also a nice scene with Lotte and Wilbell that happens later.

Probably worth mentioning that in Atelier Ayesha during one of Regina's events she mentions how she would like to have Ayesha as her wife... but can't because they're both girls. Bullshit reason but at least it was expressed that Regina's feelings towards Ayesha are more than "just friendship".

Of course the real reason they can't be together is because the protagonists in the various Atelier games just aren't allowed to be in a relationship or have any sort of permanent effect on the world outside of what occurs during the main storyline.

Opening movie. There very well could be subtext with Sophie and Plachta. That part where they're holding hands and spinning is really nice. Only thing I didn't like was how they showed Corneria and that other guy in the same shot while the other characters got their own. They better not make the cute loli goddamn straight. Just leave her neutral at least and I'll be fine with that. I know I'm being paranoid but I'm still a little paranoid.

Hate to say it, but I think I'm turning out like the Mana Khemia fans who don't like the series as a whole, only their flop favorite. Neither Arland or Shallie are interesting me like Dusk did, and I really dislike the book-girl's design.

And your retardation is showing, faggot-chan. The anon I replied to worded their post in a weird way. They said Arland and Shallie didn't interest them like Dusk did. I wasn't sure what they meant by that since Arland and Dusk are series but Shallie is a game in the Dusk series. I never implied that these were the only Atelier games.

Gust just need to make a full-blown yuri Atelier game (or at least as gay as Yoru no Nai Kuni). Really, Meruru and YnNK were the most well sold Gust games since the PS3 and also the gayest.

And as proof of her achievement, she’ll receive a special outfit. You'll probably be allowed to change it. I like both of them but I do love the over-sized coat she has in her first one.

Also helped that the Arland sequels actually built on each other from a story standpoint. It's seriously dumb how the followup on the ending of Ayesha is "and then they all got separated".

The dusk series had so much potential but they really fucked it up, I'm still mad about it. I had so many hopes after the first game since Ayesha was great, probably my favorite Atelier game.

I would love to see yuri with these two but I know I won't. I hope they don't mess up Corneria and make her have a crush on some guy. Her design is too cute to waste.
>>
>>1888964
It's really strange. I don't even have a problem with them telling individual, mostly disconnected stories within the setting, but there's a lot of stuff that you'd think would be setup that's never followed up on. Ayesha's journey, all the references to Central, etc.
>>
>>1888964
Only Dusk game I didn't like was Escha&Logy and only Arland game was Rorona. I do wish we would've gotten more Ayesha and Nio. I really liked Nio a lot and Wilbell too. I still don't remember where that pairing came from though but I'm more than okay with it. Shallie is great if you choose Lotte first due to her being a good character herself as well as having more Wilbell and Miruca events.

There was an interview recently with the Atelier series director and he said they're currently thinking of ideas for a 4th Dusk game so let's stay hopeful. Ayesha would likely be kind of old in it though. I personally don't want a 40 year old Ayesha.
>>
>>1889879
>A 40 years old Ayesha
I'm ok with it as long as she is not married with some guy.

I actually like the idea, a 40 years old Ayesha travelling the world with her own cute automaton who calls her master. In her journeys, she finds a young girl and starts teaching alchemy to her.

It's not that bad. Escha is like 4 years, and Shallie has no calendar, and given the scenario, it's probably less than a year of actual time that passes there.
So she'd be in her early twenties. Nothing worse than Rorona in Meruru.. wait.

You know, I think I've changed my mind about Monika. Her voice and personality seem a lot better than what I first thought they'd be. I like her now but I'm still not a huge fan of her outfit. Corneria has a really fucking cute voice and design. This game really might be great as long as they don't throw het in it.

>>1891354
Escha & Logy is their most recent fuck up but they never went full het with the series. E&L and Rorona were the least yuri-friendly but Totori, Meruru, Ayesha, and Shallie were all good.

Rorona not yuri-friendly? There was pretty much a freaking proposal. Sure it wasn't rings, but necklaces or whatever, but holy shit was that scene gay.
They didn't follow up on it though, unlike with Totori x Mimi. Well, at least not as much. A shame. I loved the pairing.

Anon is probably talking about the Cordelia end, they give each other a necklace as a token of friendship.

Anyway, Rorona is the less yuri friendly Arland game since Cordelia is straight for the old king (I forgot his name) and there is a lot of Rorona x Sterk moments too.

>Any tips before I fuck everything up?
Look up how to trigger the Mimi Events. She has the most events for any character (there is a reason why TotorixMimi is highly regarded) and some of them are annoying to flag.

One particular frustrating event to trigger is when you must Rank Up your Adventurers Pass when (a) You are at a certain Freindship points with Mimi and (b) already saw several earlier Mimi Events. If you somehow grind your Adventurers Pass to high level before the event, it will be much harder to get the next Rank Up at higher levels.
>>
>>1895183
You know who is really gay for Rorona? Lionela. But everyone ignores her and goes for Cordelia instead, because...tsundere. Rorona x Lionela is the only valid yuri ship in the game, though.
Also, funny how Rorona becomes a lolicon for Totori in the next game and just ignores Sterk.

Yes. Meruru basically makes Character Events unmissable and much easier to trigger. In fact is more likely you will trigger events by accident for most of your party.

Also it REALLY ramps up the TotorixMimi gayness while Childhood Friend Gino's (who also returns) story arc has absolutely nothing to do with Totori.

So it really was Logy after all. This really annoys me. I hope he doesn't play a big role or get focused on a lot. I hate how they just dropped this news out of nowhere. It feels so last minute. I like the Dusk games but I don't know, I wanted Sophie to be separate from them. A proper 4th Dusk game with Hidari as the artist is what I wanted. Instead we get this fag in Sophie and more chances of one of the girls liking him. I really don't know what to expect from this game anymore. I'm still looking forward to it but there's a lot of things that could go horribly wrong.
>>

>we get this fag in Sophie and more chances of one of the girls liking him
When was the last time we got a girl falling for a side character in Atelier? I can only think of Cordelia, so I'm not worried about that. Also, as someone said before, he is Escha husbandu so they won't try to ship him with others girls here (other that Escha, the other girls didn't even fall for him in his own game). I'm more worried about the lore, Sophie world is full of water and flowers and life, this can't be the Dusk world, makes no fucking sense, maybe if Logy is a time traveler or some shit like that....

And about Logy, I really tried to hate him in Escha&Logy but I couldn't, the guy is a great character and very likeable, totally different from the generic harem-shit MCs.

This cutie liked Keithgrif. It doesn't matter if he's already paired with Escha, it's still very possible that one of the girls will like him.
>>
>>1895968
Oh yeah, I forgot about her. Anyway, Logy is not even in the opening, he will probably be a minor character.
>>
>>1895972
I hope so. I'll admit that I overreacted a bit. I didn't really hate him either and actually, all Atelier guys are better than the guys you find in haremshit. I'm just really don't want any girls to have crushes on guys in this game. It's just not needed at all.

On another note, the OP is really good. I love the song and it hints at a possible pairing with Plachta. I still don't know who Sophie is going to be paired with if there is yuri. I've seen evidence for both Plachta and Monika.

I think I might have focused on your suggestion too hard.
Doing fine so far, anyway. Aside from being too lazy to play more often.
>>1895321
>>1895670
Can confirm, she kinda does. During the first year.

Would trying to powerlevel Marc/Gino after capping Totori/Mimi be a good idea?
>>
>>1914571
If you level up Gino, it will lock you out of the true ending. If you're aiming for it, leave Gino alone.

Also, he's annoying
>>
>>1914592

As far as I remember, Gino Level 25 is required for his ending. And true-ending means "all endings gotten". So I'm not sure what you mean. (Although the true ending is utter shit in Atelier Totori anyway. It's such a major writing failure)

That said, if I recall it right, you don't level him, as it makes manipulating which ending you want easier. Some endings need you to have not triggered ANY character ending to see them. (ending priorities) True ending however, once again, needs every ending condition fulfilled. Which is also why the ending is such a major writing failure.
>>
>>1914606
I'm not going to bother with trophies, just want to get the True end and be done with it. Maybe later and on NG+ but not this time
>Gino Level 25 is required for his ending
As well as Marc's lv30, yes. But dropping Mel and leveling them in mid-game seems like too much hassle and I'm not sure if there are good places to powerlevel later.
>>
>>1914606
>tfw I didn't even finish totori
>>
>>1914606
You need to trigger all flags to each character ending, except for the last one. That will lock you on that character's ending instead of the true one.

Gino Level 25 activates his last flag, so it will lock you on his ending instead of the true ending.

I tried true ending twice and didn't got it. So I gave up and looked it up on the YouTube anyway.
>>
>>1914623
AFAIK, you need to actually trigger every flag, get 5 chimes, feed them 35 large pies, complete the cooking contest and beer hunting, have 500k by the end, and the standard license/info on Totori's mother/diamond rank deadline.
You might have missed some of these.
>>
>>1914623
>>1914654

Yes, ALL endings conditions. Not only flags for characters. All the other stuff as well.

>>1914612

If you only want one ending, get the ending for your favorite character. Or for the "best" ending for the story, it'd probably be Mel's. (her ending requires some additional stuff regarding the main-story as far as I remember, so it fits best)

You can youtube most endings if that's enough for you. I guess Mel's wouldn't be a good idea, if you don't do the tower. (but I feel that's kinda something you should do anyway)
You don't have to worry about the true ending either. While it requires all other endings, it actually has nothing to do with that. (which is part of why I hate it) I feel like fulfilling the requirements for the money and chim endings are way too much trouble just for the shitty true ending. If you want platinum or all endings yourself? Sure. But just for the true ending.. especially the money requirement is just a grind.
>>
>>1914654
I know exactly why I couldn't do it both times.
First time it was the chimes. I started to make them eat pies to late.
Second time, I didn't know that If I got to that village before Rorona's last flag, her flag would disappear forever. And no FAQ ever told me about that.
So I gave up.
Mimi's ending is the best one, anyway
>>
>>1914671
I just want to prove, mostly to myself, that I can actually do it. I'm not particularly good in any game ever so that's all I can do to not feel like shit. And no matter how bad it is, it's called "True" so it seems like the most reasonable one to get. I don't really have a favorite character, too.

I didn't do Astrid's end in Rorona "just for the challenge" because the true end there is just a category with multiple routes. Still got 10 stars and full bingo on every assignment.

I finished Sophie the other day. There is nothing I would consider yuri, as in no female characters who are actually shown to be attracted to other girls.

The closest is a scene which I will spoil, goes with this CG: >>1921509

>The bargirl Tess helps run the quest board, completing especially difficult quests sometimes award special vouchers in addition to gold
>Tess manages a special store where you can buy powerful alchemy items and equipment in exchange for those vouchers
>She eventually puts up a 'date ticket' for 100 vouchers, only one and whoever buys it gets a date with her, setting off all the male adventurers on a contest to save up for it first
>In a shock to the male adventurers who probably just figured Sophie would use her vouchers on alchemy stuff and gear, you can have her buy the ticket and take Tess on a date to a restaurant.
>The date is very tame and it's not hinted that Sophie had any romantic intentions behind it, she's just a little slow and thought it would be nice to treat Tess to that store since she knows Tess wanted to try eating there before

That's about it. If it makes you feel better, there's no het with Sophie either.
>>
>>1927817
So, is there any subtext or text overall? What you are arguing for is yuri canon or close to it. What about the other?
>>
>>1927826
No, there's really nothing like that.

If we put obvious lesbianism like Mimi at rank A, popular fan ships based on some evidence (however flimsy) like Linca/Marion at Rank B, and teasing/unserious stuff like Tiffani or Regina or Astrid's teasing at rank C, there's not even any C-rank material to chew on here.

Anyway, I need to get some sleep so I'll check back on this thread tomorrow.
>>
>>1927829
What about Sophie and Plachta in >>1921508? Is there at least some general closeness between the two? Something like they'll always be together?

You said there was no het with Sophie but do any of the girls have obvious crushes or subtext with any guys? Any lines like "I want to be popular with the guys" or anything similar? I'm particularly concerned about Corneria.

As long as the game is somewhat "neutral" then I'm good. I already have my goggles on for Sophie and Plachta but I don't want lots of clear hetero subtext all over the place.
>>
>>1927953
>Is there at least some general closeness between the two? Something like they'll always be together?

Just friends, neither ever indicates interest beyond that in the other. "We'll always be together" is a line that gets thrown around a lot.

Plachta has some (very long reaching) history with a man who it's unclear if they had feelings for each other in the past or not, they were childhood friends and learned alchemy together.

I guess with goggles anything is possible, but Plachta is probably not your best choice.
>>
>>1928045
Can you spoil me more on Plachtas history? Does this childhood friend play a big role in things? She never showed interest in him romantically, right?
>>
>>1928162
I'd be spoiling the ending basically, and for the sake of people who can't help scrolling over spoiler text I'd rather not.

He doesn't play a big role until the end, and she always describes him as someone who used to be a close friend.
>>
>>1928520
So basically there's no strong hetero or yuri subtext in the game? Just kind of neutral, right? Sophie and Plachta saying thing like always being together is gay enough for me. I never expected any clear yuri confessions or anything like that to begin with.

I haven't finished Monika's events yet (probably will today as I work on the secret bosses), but nothing about pining over guys or any hetero subtext involving Sophie, Corneria or Leon.

I think these questions are pretty funny by the way, as expected of /u/ ('can you assure me that nobody in this game shows any signs of being straight?'). Don't worry, your goggles won't get cracked by anything too obviously hetero.
>>
>>1928526
Being a yuri fan is suffering and you get really paranoid sometimes. This is one of my favorite series and I've been really looking foward to Sophie. This is just one game where I really don't want girls flirting and being all over guys. I just don't want it. Just let me have this series. That's all I ask for. Good "yuri friendly" console JRPGs are a rarity.
>>
>>1928537
The atelier games have had het romance pretty much since the beginning though.
>>
>>1928526
That is not the point, and these questions are actually rare, because not many people look at Yuri this way.

This isn't about the game, but some of us are okay with character relationships with girls as it is, regardless of whether there is anything happening or not (although stuff happening is VASTLY preferred), as long as there isn't Girl/Boy getting intensely between as that defeats the point. This is actually closer to how Yuri is looked at in Japan.

Whereas, while your game opinions are much appreciated, you and (most of /u/) have the more western mindset of Yuri directly being equal to the lesbian identity or compulsory romance. So obviously, you didn't understand what the other posters were trying to say, when they were asking about the Yuri. You kept comparing it to your idea of Yuri. So it's a lot easier now, that someone asked if there is any hetero, because now we are all on the same page, and understand each other.
>>
>>1928575
I think my first answer pretty succinctly covered it (in response to 'How is the subtext this time around'). There isn't any. And then 'If it makes you feel better, there's no het with Sophie either'. Then I was asked a followup directly asking for subtext or 'text overall'. I also gave my honest opinion on Plachta given what we know about her. This is a series that actually has had what you would call 'stuff happening' in the past with characters like Mimi, so I don't think it's unreasonable to interpret it that way. Sorry if I rubbed someone the wrong way, I guess.
>>
>>1928579
No, you didn't rub anyone the wrong way. Just that I suppose there is a smaller amount of yuri, than the other Atelier series I've been hearing about. Haha! I was thinking that Gust used up all their yuri tokens for Yoru No Nai Kuni, that they ain't got any left over for this one!
>>
Why are you fuckers so worried about Plachta male childhood friend? Haven't you played the PS3 Ateliers? Almost every main girl had a male childhood friend and literally nothing happened.

>Totori had Gino, she was not interested in him romantically (he was though)
>Meruru had Lias, none of them were interested in each other romantically
>Ayesha had Ernie, she sees him as her mother
>Lotte had Albert and Stera had her non-blood related brother, none were interested in each other either.

I'm pretty sure is the same with Plachta.
>>
>>1928668
I'm aware of all those but I still needed to ask about him. It seems like there's nothing between them though so we're good.

>>1928571
I just don't want any more hetero in this series. I either want yuri or just no subtext at all. I've only been with this series since Arland and the only two that have been too "het" are Rorona and Escha&Logy.
>>
>>1928579
Anon who was questioning you earlier here and your answers were fine. Sorry I have a lot to ask and there's not many importers who can specifically answer things like what I've been asking. I have one more non yuri question though. Does Corneria have a breast complex or anything like that? I just hate the trope of the flat girl wanting balloon tits and thinking she's inferior to everyone.
>>
>>1928725
No. She's got a bit of a height complex, but not exactly how you'd think. Whenever she uses her alchemy, she temporarily shrinks in height, and if she overdoes it sometimes she permanently loses a bit of height. She's not really upset or worried about being shorter than other characters, but about keeping some slack so that she isn't in danger of becoming a true midget eventually.
>>
Okay, well that's good then. I hate to keep bothering you but I have another wall of text I'm going to throw at you.

So the main three that I care about the most are Sophie, Plachta, and Corneria. According to you, Sophie and Corneria are fine but I still can't get this childhood friend of Plachta off my mind. Is the only reason you said I shouldn't pair Sophie with Plachta because of this guy? There really isn't subtext between Plachta and him, right? Does he even have a name, face, or voice because I've never heard anything about him until now. Does anybody ever physically ask about Plachta's relationship with him? The way you said it was unclear made me think that maybe a relationship was implied or something. I know Plachta was originally human so I'm guessing this guy is from before she turned into a book. Is this guy still alive in the present day?

Sorry again for all that. If you can just assure me that there's nothing between the two the I'll fuck off and stop pestering you. Its going to be a while before I can play this in English unfortunately. I did import a JP copy for the sake of my collection though but my moon skills are way too beginner level.

You're cute. Alright fine, but this is basically spoiling the ending of the main story in the game, so really, DON'T scroll over it if you don't want to be spoiled:

500 years ago, Plachta describes him as being a 'close friend' and they learned alchemy together in order to save their town. Eventually he started studying forbidden alchemy and Plachta had to defeat him and seal his soul away. At the end of Sophie he gets a body back and Plachta tells Sophie that they should defeat him once and for all, but Sophie is convinced that Plachta still wants to save him deep down, and convinces her to try and save him instead. In the end, they defeat and re-seal him in non-human body that can't do alchemy, and he leaves with Plachta convinced that he's changed his ways and won't be causing any more trouble.

So to answer your question, no, I can't 'assure you' that there's nothing between them. There is no explicit evidence that there is, but there's none that there isn't. Like >>1928668 said, they could have been like Meruru and Lias where there's no real romantic interest, or there could have been. We don't know, and they don't say.
>>
>>1929226
Okay thanks. I've got a good idea of what to expect now and it doesn't seem like he'll be a problem. Out of curiosity though, what nonhuman form does he end up in? Also is this the true ending or the normal one?
>>
>>1929233
Again, huge spoilers
His soul ends up split in two, in child-like artificial life-forms, a boy and a girl (don't ask me how that works). Melket and Atomina. You can see them 2nd row, furthest to the right here: http://social.gust.co.jp/sophie/#chara_01
>>
>>1929237
That just makes me more curious about the story but I probably shouldn't spoil myself anymore.

I think I know everything I need to know in terms of yuri and hetero subtext now. Basically seems like it'll have the usual cute girls being cute together and that should be enough for me. I don't mind Atelier guys as long they don't have subtext with girls I care about.
>>
>>1927817
That's... a shame

I thought they would ramp up the yuri after Meruru not downgrade it to a series low
>>
>>1928711
>I just don't want any more hetero in this series. I either want yuri or just no subtext at all. I've only been with this series since Arland and the only two that have been too "het" are Rorona and Escha&Logy.

This is the wrong series for you then, Iris 1 and 3 both had romance stories as main parts of the plot for example. Atelier is not the kind of franchise one should expect yuri from.
>>
>>1929286
Not really. I don't care about the games before the Arland series. Maybe the older games were more het but the PS3 games have been fine for the most part.
>>
>>1929286
Sorry, but Iris series shouldn't even be considered Atelier games.
>>
>>1928523
From another anon who just finished Sophie.

I think the ending is pretty obvious. "We'll always be together" and handholding CG with blushing girls, what more could you ask for? And no I never once got the feeling that Plachtas feeling for that man was in any way romantic. Basically they helped get their village out of a rough spot when they were young, and they had the same dream- to use alchemy to help others. Then the guy went emo and Plachta fucked him up.
>>1921508
>>
>>1934127
Well that's good to hear. Sophie and Plachta are both cute as fuck and them saying things like that while holding hands and blushing is yuri enough for me.

I love this motherfucking artist. First all the TotoMimi content and now SophiePlachta. I really hope they draw more of these two.
>>
Hi, I'm sorry because you guys probably get this a lot, but is there anything actually canon in the series or is it all just subtext?

Mainly just subtext and goggles. The couple with the strongest subtext so far is TotoMimi. Lots of cute girls being cute together so it's easy to use your goggles and in most cases there's no hetero subtext either. Mimi's crush on Totori is pretty obvious even to people who aren't into yuri and it doesn't feel too one-sided either.
>>
>>1938312
Atelier Totori + Atelier Meruru are the most yuri of the lot, so you can start with these two, if you are planning to play. Atelier Ayesha + Atelier Shallie + Atelier Sophie are female-protagonist driven too, but "lesser" in the way of yuri.

Atelier Meruru might be a bit more yurier in English reality. Someone, from the Yoru No Nai Kuni thread (now saged), who claimed to work in the English localization industry for games, said that they censored/changed some dialogue for Atelier Meruru, so that it would not give the impression of girls being "too close".

For canon gay, play Gust's new RPG, Yoru No Nai Kuni.
>>
>>1938393
I see. Well, time to buy a PS4.
>>
>>1938394
I suggest waiting. In case Yoru No Nai Kuni gets the censorship treatment. Unless, you are playing it in Japanese, then go ahead.

Or unless I'm even more mistaken, and you are talking about Atelier Sophie, haha.
>>
>>1938396
Sophie still seems pretty gay with lines like >>1916879
