Just finished the show, honestly I loved almost every minute of it and stayed up until 10am to finish it. 9/10. Too tired to give it a review worth reading but it's a good show regardless so anyone on the fence should just give it a go.

So I just finished watching it.
Easily a 7 out of 10 or better depending on what you enjoy and how high your standards are. I am pretty tough on TV shows and this show actually worked well for the most part.
Good characterization, especially with that of the police chief, intriguing developments in the relationships between characters, the kids are enjoyable and not annoying, the character of Eleven is interesting, and there's enough of a threat that there's stakes involved. Also, the 8 episode run makes it so that the show doesn't feel like it hasn't worn out its welcome. You definitely want another 8 episodes after seeing it, and hopefully they will stick to that number. Also has a really good soundtrack that should be seen with the biggest subwoofer you can find. As a final bonus there's very little SJW garbage in this show.
Cons: the threat is still somewhat vague, things get resolved a little too neatly at the end, some of the adult actors are really shitty, the special effects in the final episode are pretty weak, and the show is sometimes a bit too derivative for its own good and seems to revel in all the references and homages it makes to older movies that are even shown in the show itself. You wonder if the show has more than another season left in it because there doesn't seem to be much left resolved in the story.
Overall, definitely worth watching if you enjoy Sci-Fi dramas, especially considering how easy it is to binge watch on a single day.

so straight up, is it good? Is it worth subbing to netflix for a month to watch this?
i got done the second episode its not amazing so far
still waiting for it to get good
its like a stephen king novel without the hook, without the super natural element to pull you in, sure one girl can move shit with her mind and theres some big bad alien or w/e but thats about it
like with IT or dream catcher or pretty much everything he makes, he makes well rounded characters that react and bumble about in a believable and entertaining way in a believable yet supernatural situation
but this whole series so far just seems kinda "meh" and im not really drawn into it
like from the first episode of mr robot i was fucking hooked, and that show's pacing and narrative was just hook line and sinker

I just watched the first episode and it already doesn't make sense.
This boy shows up at this diner, and the diner owner keeps calling him "she" like it's a girl. Then the DnD kids find him in the woods and they keep talking and treating him like he's a girl.
And, besides, if it is a girl, how would the diner guy and the DnD kids all be able to tell just by looking at her?

The only thing I don't agree with about this post is the sound track. Maybe it's a nice selection, but I felt like they didn't utilize it as well as they could have. A lot of it felt just too "hey guy's its the 80's!" As a matter of fact almost everything about the 80's setting felt too artificial, imho. Still everything else was great, and I was especially surprised that the kid actors weren't annoying, and Eleven was the main standout even including the adults.
