This has done thousand times before. There is LITERALLY no innovation at all. Maybe one of the towns people knew it all along/work for the government. Wow, what a twist.
This shit show just rides on the 80's Spielberg nostalgia wave.

Just finished the show, honestly I loved almost every minute of it and stayed up until 10am to finish it. 9/10. Too tired to give it a review worth reading but it's a good show regardless so anyone on the fence should just give it a go.

Well shit
>>
So I just finished watching it.

Easily a 7 out of 10 or better depending on what you enjoy and how high your standards are. I am pretty tough on TV shows and this show actually worked well for the most part.

Good characterization, especially with that of the police chief, intriguing developments in the relationships between characters, the kids are enjoyable and not annoying, the character of Eleven is interesting, and there's enough of a threat that there's stakes involved. Also, the 8 episode run makes it so that the show doesn't feel like it hasn't worn out its welcome. You definitely want another 8 episodes after seeing it, and hopefully they will stick to that number. Also has a really good soundtrack that should be seen with the biggest subwoofer you can find. As a final bonus there's very little SJW garbage in this show.

Cons: the threat is still somewhat vague, things get resolved a little too neatly at the end, some of the adult actors are really shitty, the special effects in the final episode are pretty weak, and the show is sometimes a bit too derivative for its own good and seems to revel in all the references and homages it makes to older movies that are even shown in the show itself. You wonder if the show has more than another season left in it because there doesn't seem to be much left resolved in the story.

Overall, definitely worth watching if you enjoy Sci-Fi dramas, especially considering how easy it is to binge watch on a single day.

Holy shit this was good.

The ending left me craving more and I'm sure we'll get it. Supposedly it's confirmed by an actor, but who knows maybe he's just being cocky (rightfully so) but yeah. It sounds like it won't just follow up from here though since they said they want to do a sequel and not a second season.

I'm thinking we'll get a timeskip and our cast aged up. There's a lot of potential for stories with such things as subjects 1-10 and beyond 11 potentially. Not to mention the parallel worlds and rifts.

Just finished it, and I liked it quite a bit. It is fairly clichéd, but it's still pretty unpredictable. It's obviously a throwback to sort of 80s horror films though, so they definitely use quite a bit of that style.

It's not really answered, but I don't think 11 is his daughter, I kind of assumed he just oversaw everything and used a sort of parental relationship to try and motivate his test subjects.

I'm hoping she's back but it would imply she's avoiding Mike I guess out of fear she would put him in danger and I hate that shit to death. Guess we'll have to wait 1-2 years to find out.

I'm watching via Netflix.

Currently on episode 3 now.

Pretty good.
>>
>>72028994
I don't know it seemed planned to me, leaving them in a random box in the woods after a random amount of time passed while he never even knew her that well, especially after meeting with the government dudes for some reason. I mean if he had left them in the classroom where she disappeared or somewhere significant then I'd see it as a remembrance, but it definitely seems like there's some reason he's doing it. But yeah, probably another year or so until we know, just thought maybe there was some perfectly reasonable explanation that I totally missed out on.
>>
I hate to admit, i'm a sucker for series that use a different ending song for each episode.
>>
>yfw Netflix doesn't renew it for a second season
>>
>>72029239
As far as i know, Netflix always do 2 season deals. I think most of the speculation around that is the understanding that a season 1 can sometimes be a sloppy diamond in the rough and most of those issues are ironed out by s2.

Though most of what Netflix have produced so far, has on average been pretty decent.
>>
>>72024734
Very funny coincidence indeed.
>>
On episode 6 pretty good so far it's

ET meets nightmare elm street

Please tell Eleven goes Tetsuo on that old bitch.
>>
>>72031240
She goes Tetsuo on a lot of soldiers
>>
>>72031300
She does but not as Tetsuo as she should have. More of a Tetsuo-light. I hope in later seasons she will get to the top of the Tetsuo tier and wreck the city a little.

It was pretty decent. Started to get bored towards then end when magical mind girl could just start beating everyone up and the monster ended up being a little bitch
>>
Marathoned it all. Mad comfy, especially the parts with the kids. Reminds me a little bit of the film adaptation of Stephen King's It, with the kids going in way over their heads and banding together to deal with shit. Obviously touches of ET and Elfen Lied, too.

Hoping they keep things hammy in season 2.

So basically M83 the movie.
Not that is a bad idea or anything.
>>
So, I just watched the whole thing. It was comfy for what it was: a fun 80's B-movie stretched out into a TV series length.

Glaring errors include
>11 whisking away the random predator and leaving with it for no real reason
>failing to really explore the motivations behind the scientists beyond DUDE SCIENCE LOL
>seriously, the villains did nothing but get raped
>the little shit is THROWING UP RAPESLUGS and doesn't tell the two people who went to hell and back for him
>nature of corroded parallel world was hardly touched upon, and it sort of took a backseat for the bulk of the series, only resurfacing when convenient
All in all, a fun ride, but definitely had room for improvement.
>>
I like that for all the obvious 80s cliches, they subvert the slasher one and have the only teen not having sex get killed
>>
>>72033143
yeah first half was significantly better. Felt like Insidious. As in it kinda went to shit after they revealed too much
>>
>>72026050
This popped up in my head multiple times while I was watching as well. Probably just some overlap in people working on aesthetics, or like most anons have said there has just been a lot of 80sfap recently. I honestly can't get enough but hey, different people, different strokes.
>>
>>72028563
Shut up, don't remind me that fringe is over.

(I live in Vancouver, and while they were filming fringe I was also watching breaking bad. I don't know what made me do it, but I accidentally called Walt (John Noble) Walter White. Oh the ironing.

When El was defeating the no face monster, it almost looked for a second as if she was absorbing it/they were absorbing each other, and then it dawned on me. What if El has now taken the place of the monster in the darkvail? He left the food in the same place the monster did it's hunting, maybe he's leaving it there as an offering so that El doesn't have to go looking for other more alive things to eat. Just a wild theory.
>>
>>72034880
>11 whisking away the random predator and leaving with it for no real reason

I think this has something to do with the "I'm the monster" scene

>failing to really explore the motivations behind the scientists beyond DUDE SCIENCE LOL

They're like CERN, trying to break through to new dimensions
>>
>>72036105
The directora should do an AMA or release a follow up video
>>
Is there a plan for more than one season of the show? It sure feels like a mini series and that ending won't get resolved anytime soon.
>>
>>72036075
I found it odd that they never seemed to give the creature any motivation. When she first saw it they seemed to be saying it wasn't hostile, but obviously it was. I was hoping there would be something where it turned out the monster just wanted a friend the whole time.
>>
Is this a one time show or is it going to be a series?
>>
>>72036191
what an unfortunate name for a child
>>
>>72036192
They said it was a predator, so I guess the motivation was food. Seems kind of weak

Just finished, solid 8.5/10. Only complaint was the last episode felt kind of rushed.

so straight up, is it good? Is it worth subbing to netflix for a month to watch this?
>>
i got done the second episode its not amazing so far
still waiting for it to get good
its like a stephen king novel without the hook, without the super natural element to pull you in, sure one girl can move shit with her mind and theres some big bad alien or w/e but thats about it

like with IT or dream catcher or pretty much everything he makes, he makes well rounded characters that react and bumble about in a believable and entertaining way in a believable yet supernatural situation

but this whole series so far just seems kinda "meh" and im not really drawn into it

like from the first episode of mr robot i was fucking hooked, and that show's pacing and narrative was just hook line and sinker

this show's narrative is just kinda dragging
>>
>>72039846

>not understanding this whole tv show is just pulp fiction

every episode is filled with references to other films and 80's pop culture
>>
Just finished the season, hopefully season 2 doesn't go down the shitter.
Is Will Artorias since he can abysswalk?
>>
I just watched the first episode and it already doesn't make sense.

This boy shows up at this diner, and the diner owner keeps calling him "she" like it's a girl. Then the DnD kids find him in the woods and they keep talking and treating him like he's a girl.

And, besides, if it is a girl, how would the diner guy and the DnD kids all be able to tell just by looking at her?

Show's a wreck imo

Also, isn't this just the "Midnight City" video stretched out to 8 hours?

>>72039111
The only thing I don't agree with about this post is the sound track. Maybe it's a nice selection, but I felt like they didn't utilize it as well as they could have. A lot of it felt just too "hey guy's its the 80's!" As a matter of fact almost everything about the 80's setting felt too artificial, imho. Still everything else was great, and I was especially surprised that the kid actors weren't annoying, and Eleven was the main standout even including the adults.
>>
>>72041742
No idea, half way through it and it seems pretty mediocre. Sucker for 80s call backs too.
>>
>>72041673
Heh they are at times but imo pretty much everyone redeems themselves by the end
