Dennis Villeneuve is seriously one of the very few filmmakers I would qualify as Kubrick-like.
Takes deep deranging societal subjects.
Gets all the technical, psycho-sociological and logical facts straight
amazingly well controled, tight cinematography
Kubrick seemed to love adapting from literary sources whereas DV gets his inspiration from comtemporary events/situations
there's this sense of unease when the plot starts to thicken
top tier acting very time
Every time josh brolin makes this arrogant half secretive smile, or every time one of the main character of prisoners loses it due to anger management issues

IMDB core is just bullshit. It's a meme concept. And ÀBDS is a legitimate masterpiece, and easily one of the greatest/best films ever. And I doubt it's the case of Zamri, Umri, Voskresni!, which I'll watch soon.

Antonioni has never properly learnt to direct. He's an pleb focused on 'muh aesthetics'. If, for example, he needs a certain kind of road for The Red Desert, then he gets the houses repainted on the damned street. That is the attitude of an pleb. He took great care over a single shot, but didn't understand that a film is a rhythmic stream of images, a living process. for him, on the contrary, it was such a shot, then another shot, then yet another. So, sure, there are some brilliant bits in his films... I can't understand why Antonioni is held in such high esteem.

I've never liked Welles as an actor, because he's not really an actor. In Hollywood you have two categories, you talk about actors and personalities.
