Whenever Pixar tries to blend the human world with their fictional ones, it mostly fails. The reason Finding Nemo works so well is because it's mostly disconnected from the human world. Having talking fish interact with the human world makes it just feel wacky, which is something I never got from Finding Nemo. It's got humour, but features a serious story, and it's easy to be gripped in it when you're not questioning how the hell this works every 5-10 minutes. The octopus moving around the marine park was stupid, but once it started driving a fucking truck I knew this film was not as good.
>>
>>71323385
does FINDING DORY seriously feature an octopus driving a truck

good thing i already decided to never pay money for a Pixar film again

Runaway is a pretty interesting effort. The beginning is quite promising and there are glimpses of promise throughout. It's basically MBDTF: The Short Film, and in ways it works, but mostly it's let down by poor writing and some poor editing choices.

Zoolander.jpg
3 MB, 5742x2414
So many of its images are already seared in my brain: a handheld camera bouncing and juddering as it chases the heroes through a Chinese aqueduct; a man sprinting down a runway as a blown-out sky vibrates behind him; a gasoline-fight at a filling station seems to envelope the camera in a blur of motion. Iā€™ve seen Zoolander dismissed by some as silly or dramatically flat. It isnā€™t, but I rather think that misses the point. You donā€™t face up to a film like this look to pick apart its dialogue or story, even if you think theyā€™ll withstand the scrutiny. When a rush of images this exquisite are upon you the only appropriate response is to give yourself over to them. Stiller has pushed the comedy blockbuster into the realm of abstract expressionism alright. Simply stand back and luxuriate in the beauty.

>still holds up on rewatch
Very weak praise. Of fucking course it holds up, damned fuck's sake.
As if one needs to make it soft for the retards. It's his crown jewel and one of the greatest films in the history of the medium, top 20 at least. Influential to no end, but even then, triumphing over essentially all the offspring. So dangerous, so alive, so sexy. And it was just the beginning of a nonsensically magical spell, and an overall career.
Fuck the swines of this board and their spouted shitposting in any given time.

I think Full Metal Jacket still retains a bit of that 80's feel, but it isn't as obvious. The other's are good picks though.

Amadeus definitely feels 80's in terms of it's shot selection. It doesn't really matter though, as it's excellent.

I'm liking mpv so far. It's not perfect, but it functions well enough. It's a very basic player, but it does the job just right.

It was alright. I'd like to travel to The Philippines one day so thought it might be an interesting watch.
That race car driver they got to be the host was annoying - too much babbling about generic 'muh feelings' stuff.
The ecologist and the forestry staff that took them out to the pygmy forest were cool, though.
Have you been there by any chance?

There is some weird effect in my config where pixels get mashed in motion and there's shadow image every now and then (like a trail of pixels in certain color+contrast combinations) that I can't get rid of.

It is apparent on every file when there's motion and certain brightness level. It is only distinct in motion though. It is probably the config I used that's broken in someway.

Surprisingly, it is both lighter in use and faster in reading any file I throw at it than mpc.

Not a whole lot, most recently True Detective s1 which was great, the only show I've been a huge fan of. Which makes sense since I'm not watching any current shows, and the ones I have watched are like Burn Notice, Chuck, and Breaking Bad and some comedies here and there

got is good but it's edgy, and there's a drop in quality after s3, it's turning into fan service and shock value. It's not the best show on air but it's entertaining enough. If you want to watch a show there are better things, but it's not the worst either.
