With around 50% of voting centers reporting in the "leave" vote has a 700,000 vote lead at the moment.

We'll know pretty sure in 3 hours around breakfast in the UK.

I wish we could have voter demographic data to determine who the fuck is voting to leave and who the fuck is voting to stay. But obviously democracy is not about that. It seems like most areas are 50% but I really want to know what groups are voting where.

In my mind, the entire premise of a working democracy is dependent on a population that is either a) knowledgeable of the issues to make informed decisions or b) able to identify a representative competent enough to do that thinking for them.

Unfortunately, the world is a very complicated place, and on top of it all, it's also a very shitty place where misinformation and ignorance runs rampant and people simply don't have the time to educate themselves on the issues, which means that the population can neither make intelligent voting decisions and neither can it identify non-retards to represent them. So democracy just doesn't work anymore.

Democracy used to work, it even used to work in the broken American system. The problem today in the United States as it is in most other nations in the world that are democratic is that the corruption too easily reaches the representatives and the people are too stupid to see that. Not to mention that those who would be capable leaders see how much of a shitshow it is and would rather put their talents to a less stressful and more successful life.

I went on a tangent at that last part. The point is that we're using an antiquated system to make complex decisions that the system is unsuitable and often incapable of reaching the conclusion that would be truly best.

Some people use the excuse that the democratic system would be too costly to change; but to me, the cost of the failures of the system are even greater and have longer and lasting consequences than the effort we would put into reforming the system. This vote is a big deal; if the UK votes to leave it basically is the end for any sense of unity in the world.

And the thing is to me, multinational unity will be necessary to deal with fanaticism in the Middle East, unchecked corporations, and global warming.

What a bullshit article
First of all,
>scotland
>educated

All this says is that the people who live comfy lives away from the diversity who aren't negatively affected by the EU voted to remain with the status quo, whereas those who are actually experiencing the effects first-hand want out.

It's the Trump phenomenon. During the primaries, the places filled with minorities and illegals were where he had the strongest support, whereas places that were 99% white and didn't have to deal with the problems of diversity went for cruz.

And they have a recent history of isolation. Unlike the UK. Import costs go up, prices go up. Labour costs will go up, prices will also go up. Competition goes down, prices go up. Lower profit margins for companies, prices go up.
Pissed off public sector wages either go up in response (i.e. further increase in inflation) or the public sector is crippled and government cuts lead to a large increase in unemployment.

Then considering how much money the UK already hands out to lazy cunts on the dole, just going to lead to even more problems.

I don't blame them. There are a lot of social rifts in society that just get rolled over instead of being addressed. Politicians want to ignore genuine issues and instigate progress for progress sake, forsaking larger and larger parts of the populace until we reach a tipping point like we have now.

It's like the migrant crisis. People slowly got sick of the terrorism and violence on the streets, and most major politicians just laughed it off and told the public to go fuck their collective self.

representative democracies exist because I think as a whole we recognise that the masses being entirely responsible for legislation and policy would be infeasible and impractical, and more than that I think we recognise that most of the intricacies are best left to full-time lawmakers

unchecked corporations won't be regulated by unions in one part of the world, they'll incorporate in other nations where the laws are laxed, or they'll withdraw from countries where they can't be competitive until those countries change laws to accomodate them again.

>>
>>71207368
Sure, homogenization of legislation across borders benefits them but I think of it as a double edged sword where that same uniform regulation imposes the implementation of universal standards, environmental protections, and economic efficiency that will bring taxable corporate wealth back to the pockets of the governments and therefore to the taxpayer who supported and subsidized that company's success.

Of course that won't happen. If anything at all there is no establishment of universal standards and strong environmental protections of some nations are eroded because it's cheaper for less established nations to impose no regulations. And free-flowing currency just means they can hide it better in nations with less established and un-reformed banking systems.

But it would be shit either way. Unity ensures that we have the potential to accomplish it and makes the tools available should we ever choose to wield them.

IF WE LEAVE THE EU THEN WORLD WAR THREE WILL HAPPEN AND ALL OUR MONEY WILL DISAPPEAR AND WE'LL BE DYING IN THE STREETS AND WE WON'T HAVE POLES TO PLUMB OUR TOILETS IT'LL BE A COMPLETE HOLOCAUST OH NO

We got out before things took a REAL turn for the worse. The migrant crisis is only getting worse. Fucking turkey is blackmailing germoney into giving them EU membership, allowing them to flood millions and millions of turkroaches into europe. And there are tons of shitty economies on the verge of collapse just like Greece that, besides sucking up money as it is, would require the rest of the EU to give them even more money to stay afloat.

Brexit is chemotherapy. Yeah, it's going to be a little rough at first because of some uncertainty, but it'll be better in the long run.

It means they're just going into the arms of other ISIL nations.

That's so fucked up. ISIL loses a stronghold and they gain 80,000 fucking vulnerable people to recruit from.

Tribal horseshit is just crazy to me. Those 80,000 are fearing the certain tribal persecution that comes from the Iraq government. Their government.

>but they're literally the best a nation has
I'd say the academic community is the best a nation has. In this day and age, a bachelor's degree is becoming more and more equivalent to what a high school diploma 30 years ago. It's a general requirement that most people are just expected to have.

>they're going to be more informed than working people just because they have more leisure time
I'm a student so trust me, leisure time doesn't necessarily equate to debating political news and discussing the finer points of antiquated philosophy like some might think. For many students, it's a lot of partying or playing video games, we can pretty undisciplined at the best of times.

On the other hand, I find that a general discussion with most blue collar workers lasts a little longer and can be weirdly more insightful. Just this morning I had to explain to a mate what the EU actually was.

Society takes all sorts, and I don't think cutting people out of their voting rights is really a good way to resolve any issues.

Welfare is a function of economic prosperity. Brown people (any people, really) increase that prosperity overall, although they do "take jobs" from low-skill workers. But young whites also "take jobs" from low-skill middle-aged people, it's just that white people had the grand idea to put their birth rates below replacement levels. Do you also have a problem with white kids taking your job, or are you just a racist, baby? ;)

Hey guess fucking what, the content of a working man's wallet is kind of important, especially if you remember the fact that it was the able bodied poor who chopped Louis XVI's head off, and that of the Czar Nicholas II.

Every fucking day I read politicians and economists telling me how the economy improved while average Joe's salary has been the same for decades while the price of rent and food has doubled and tripled. Most poor people aren't that bright, but they are smart enough to know when they are out of a fucking job and feeling hungry.

PROS:

Not being part of the EU.

The EU is an undemocratic experiment in realpolitik whose main job is representing the interests of the ECB (European Central Bank) and IMF (International Monetary Fund) at the expense of the political sovereignty and economic independence of member states.

Member states that take the Euro as their currency are forced compete against each other without having an independently floated currency to inflate/deflate with their own economy. The result of this is that the more resource-rich countries (which are also usually closer to the geographic centre of Europe), i.e. Germany, profit at the expense of the poorer members at the geographical edges of the Eurozone, i.e. Ireland, Spain, Greece, Iceland, etc.

Basically it's a huge economic machine that sucks the wealth from the edges of Europe and puts it into Germany, who then loans it back to Europe with interest.

While Britain was less subject to this effect due to having an independent currency, the fact is that it was still occurring due to the European parliament messing with Britain's trade and industrial legal framework.

This was a far more significant downside of EU membership than anything to do with immigration, although the idea of importing millions of impoverished foreigners for no reason other than "their own country sucks" is absolutely insane as well, so there's another pro.

CONS:

The ECB and their daddy, the IMF, will now see Britain as an ideological enemy and will target the British economy in every way they can. The UK can expect hostile tariffs and financial assaults for the next decade or two, which will likely be just as bad for the British economy as staying in the EU would have been, if not worse.

Germany wants to own Europe, and they won't be likely to let a measly thing like a democratic system stand in their way.

Why would they do that? Israel has never been more secure in it's entire history; the Muslim world is literally tearing itself apart and killing each other instead of the Jews and Britain just bailed on the EU, (soon to be followed by the Czechs, Poles and others) which along with the migrant crises, is too busy to bother complaining about the Jews anymore.

And of course in the U.S., ALL the political candidates are beholden to the Jews in one way or another and despite Obama supposedly being "anti-Israel", Israel just got an _additional_ $40 BILLION handout from American tax payers…
