Kinda makes sense since humans speak English universally.

Is this unique in the Trek universe? Are there any other languages that are not just named after the race? (e.g. Vulcans speak Vulcan)

On a related point: Planet names

Vulcans from Vulcan
Ferengi from Ferenginar
Bajorans from Bajor
etc.

but

Klingons from Kronos (Qo'noS)

Any others like this?

>Gre'thor
>An early draft of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Soldiers of the Empire" had Worf, Martok, and the crew of the IKS Rotarran finding the entrance to Gre'thor on a Klingon planet. Martok and Worf were to have entered to save a friend of Martok's and would have encountered Worf's father Mogh. The idea was dropped as it was deemed too late in the season to tackle such a philosophical idea as Klingon hell. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion

Did you ever watch the episode "Emergence"?
Where they discuss consciousness as an emergent property of constituent parts of neural nets?
My point being is that reduced him to that by flicking the magic switch instead of leaving well enough alone.
Data was the combination of hardware and software that was complex enough to approach something that at the basest of descriptions was a close approximation to what waking consciousness is for a sentient / sapient person.
>>
>>71064449
You are showing an image of the entire roof of the bridge is my point and I guess meme arrows don't spell it out enough for you.
My point was to show that of course they are there because they know the shots are never panned to the ceiling or at the most are seen only partially.
Also, it's fiction. Get over it.

They are a bit different.
TOS really captures the action-scifi of the 60s/70s but it's almost entirely stand-alone episodes that don't really start to build on previous stories until Amok Time.
Some episodes are a little ridiculous and if you can get over the low budgeted sets and costumes I think you'll find it's an adequately entertaining progenitor to the Trek lore.
>>
>>71064591
>of course they are there because they know the shots are never panned to the ceiling or at the most are seen only partially
Except they did, all of the time, that's what made me question the mystical beams appearing out of nowhere.

They even pan to the ceiling in Generations, where that image is from to see the sky through the shattered dome and still the ceiling is intact.

Fuck off with your MST3K defence of internal logic breaking events.

I'm done arguing with you over something so pedantic that it shouldn't have been responded to in the first place.

My main point is that it never crossed my mind because it's rarely ever shown. You are wrong, they never pan it to "IT" ever. It's a peripheral part of shots in partiality.

Of all the inconsistencies with Trek and you find a shot from production that includes the entire set to gripe about.

I always assumed the beams were those decorative (?) platings on the bridge dome, perhaps getting warped straight as they took the impact.

They could be structurally useful, but it's certainly transparent aluminum and therefore I'd assume it doesn't require it.

I've never heard anything like that. He always comes off as genuinely grateful for getting a huge career boost on Voyager; arguably he's the only cast member Who went on to have a relatively successful career after (by which I mean landing parts).

You're probably thinking of Robert Beltran, who played Chakotay. He had some podcast interviews where he talks about how dumb the show was, and you can tell he's kind of bitter about it.

Most of the time, I don't mind those guys being bitter about an obviously neglected and, at times, offensive handling of what could've been the best Trek yet.

But I feel like he lacks the tact and adulthood to address the issues without sounding like a bit of little bitch about the whole thing.

Granted, he had an Armenian scam-artist shaping his character and he generally had an interest in the quality of the show. You would think he would've handled it better.

It wasn't until some recent convention that he sounds like he's finally put his bitterness in the past.

There was an ironic podcast that was real cheap from 2010 with him and some nobody where he pretends to hate Star Trek fans and "Bill Shitner". But instead of making it funny with some truthfulness, he just keeps going on and on as though he finds all Trek fans repulsive.

Come to think of it, that was like 2008-2009, I could link people if they are interested.
