Stannis must have really fucked up Ramsay if he had 5000 soldiers at the end of last season and only 6000 soldiers at the beginning of this season
But he was a fucking moron when it came to tactics, nobody slaughters all of their larger cavalry to kill a smaller cavalry force and some infantry
I'd say he slaughtered 3K of his cavalry to kill 1.5K of Jon's cavalry and some infantry, he then got lucky surrounding Jon's remaing soldiers, but only had infantry and got wrecked by the Vale cavalry

That's the point. He used a lot of filter to make all sets appear futuristic. There's a scene where Sheev and Anakin walk through the office that appears fully fake CGI.
The office is actually a real set that was around since TPM. It was digitally enhanced to look surrealistically "clean", thus fake.
Google "practical effects prequels" and see. Almost every scene was either a full set, or a miniature (which happened since, eh, ROTJ, when Carrie Fisher also complained about having to act in front of the blue screen).
Mustafar was a gigantic model, with the crew going to Italy specifically to film volcano lava. In the film itself, you could have easily thouhgt it to be CGI.

actually, shieldbearers had short knives, maybe shortswords, second row had spears, but it depends, tactics have changed from phalanax where every row had a really long spear and literally all the killing was done by folks in 3 or even 4th row(they were out of emidiate danger so they were able to concentrate on hittin the targets)
Also, check ancient armors(lets say Spartans), they were in fucking underwear but they had armor from their feet to their knees (it was only wonreable place, most damage was done in legs, i know it sounds stupid, but cold warfare was really, really complex(maybe even more than this rifle nonsense), you wouldnt believe how many functions has one little bump on viking shield, stuff you would think is ornamental is most crucial.
Point is, with cold warfare, you really need to have just one good trick, there is no one who will survive and tell about it(so they can make countermeasures on the spot).
Look at weaboo samurai duels, guy had one trick, and he used it whole life, its not as if dead guy's spirit will tell next guy about IDK, sand in sleeve or knife in shorts.
