Only thing I felt a little annoying was that the spearwall became bowling balls with the appearance of the Vale cavalry and none of them reacted at all. They were shock troops. You send him to break morale and hope the enemy runs.

In reality commentators and veterans would joke that when 2 cavalries would attack each other they just ran by each other and did almost nothing in the way of actual fighting and it was almost considered a joke.
Real effective cavalry basically used to flank and break the line so as to scatter organization and cause retreat.

The only reason to delay is if there is a solid promise of reinforcements, not "let's wait a week and see if Ramsay dies on the shitter". Sansa KNEW FOR A GODDAM FACT that there were more warriors there for the asking and let Jon go into a hopeless battle.
you can't just wait a week and let all the people who have agreed to fight for you think about the consequences of their actions. Suddenly, 5000 people becomes 2000 and no one will ever take you seriously again.
